Rising Stars: Meet Maya Milan of Atlanta ,GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Milan.

Hi Maya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I first started singing at the age of 3, my mom always tell the story of how the first song I ever learned was “Who can I run to” x escape. She played it so much after going through a break up with my dad that the song became apart of me as a baby growing up. Then from there the rest was history. I grew up singing in elementary choir which molded me to be a solo artist because my teacher Ms.Randall really guided me and helped me find my confidence at a young age. After that, middle school, highschool and college I was always known for singing and from there was able to meet people along the way and now here I am a professional recording artist and background singer for Keith sweat, the late great Angie Stone rest In peace and Rod wave .

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It def hasn’t been a walk in the park. It’s been a lot of blood sweat and tears but I plan to share my pain and adversities I’ve had recently on my newest project I’m working on called “Tissues And Tequila” aka “T&T” ! So stay tuned .
However, being an artist requires a village so the main struggle I think all of us artist go through on this journey is the constant search of the right TEAM because you’re only as strong as your players!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I would say that the urban girl next door from around your way. I’m your bestfriend, your daughter, your cousin, your crush or even class mate. I make music that chronicles my life and in a way some of everyone’s life or common struggles young women go through being in love. My music has a soulful yet edgy twist about it and I’m all for making music you can feel. I pride myself on being a finisher because I’m a natural born powerhouse but what sets be apart is definitely my delivery and passion. I sing in whatever space I’m in so the fact that I’m willing to get raw with the audience and just show what life really looks like for a young woman in the music industry today. I have no cut cards and I got a chip on my shoulder because I’ve been through so much , therefore every win and every song is super personal because a lot of people have played in my face but GOD kept me on the front line for a reason. I’m proud of the fact I always bounce back and I’m super resilient and can adapt to change and I think as an artist that’s super important. I’m grateful to have come this far

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have been blessed to have so many people along the way guide my journey. I Ofcourse have to thank GOD. He takes all the credit and then it would be my mom. She has made so many sacrifices for me and it’s my life mission to make sure she has a great life

Then it would be my producer twnty 47 who really helped me hand craft my sound and coached me through records basically helping instill all the soul and emotions the records need. Then I would like have to say my mentor KEITH SWEAT. He taught me everything I know when it comes to passion and delivering the records we do in the studio on the stage. He taught me about the music business and longevity and I’m forever grateful to have spent the last 9 years learning and studying him.

Along the way I have met so many other people that have contributed to my success from writers, producers , a&rs and business partners . They know who they are and when I get my Grammy they will all be thanked personally
