Today we’d like to introduce you to Meosha McDaniel-Spencer.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Springing from a family of business owners made it easy for me to see how attainable entrepreneurship could be. However, the hard work and dedication it takes could not be taught. These things were acquired through countless years of failures and successes. I’ve always been fashion-oriented and different stylistically. When it comes to my multiple business ventures, the core value is uniqueness. Handcrafted apparel, jewelry and even home and body products are on our current platform. I began creating handcrafted earrings in 2015. No business name, no target market, no business plan just a desire to create. Between then and 2017, we developed a custom tag. Everything I created was custom to the buyer. This is where the name The Custom Jar was branded. I have been to expand in 2018 to stock jewelry that wasn’t handmade. We also launched into apparel And other accessories. In 2019 We refocused on the “custom” tag inside our brand. Designing and printing custom t-shirts started to be our new norm. Many sub-brands have been launched since then revolving around faith-based garments. Our sister company (new kid on the block) is Potions Home + Body Co. This odd where we handcrafted, hand bottle and created gold and body products from candles to perfume oil.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The journey has been filled with ups and downs. Learning to do things that do not necessarily have a blueprint has been the most challenging. My mother had us in reading programs over the summers which paid off in my adult life. I have read, researched and listened to plenty of seminars to acquire what is needed in this race. The downs have given me a line of business to help others not fall victim to some of my hang-ups along this road. The ups actually keep me in the race.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in handmade and handcrafted products. Faith-based T-shirt designs are our best sellers currently. I create slogans, sentences and designs that most think and just don’t say. The designs are bold and free. Some of our other heavy hitters are our hand-painted and designed earrings. Body butter, wax melts, candles, body oils and even beard moisture oil are handcrafted at Potions Home and Body Co. I’m most proud of my healthy hair oil. I’ve created an aide to strengthen and even grow hair with natural oils. The growth is quick and proven. Definitely a proud moment
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I believe success is defined by the individual seeking the answer. That is the beauty of individuality in entrepreneurship. My growth over the years has given me success. I’m running multiple streams of sales with 1 product, success. I’m running this business while working a full-time 9-5, success. My husband has now jumped on board and runs his portion of Potions, success. Happiness is hunting me down, success. I’m in my right mind and ready to grow even more = success.
