Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Kapree
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Music has always been a huge part of my life. From a young age, I was drawn to different sounds and rhythms, and I knew that one day I’d find a way to connect with people through music. But it wasn’t until I had my baby, now one year old, that everything started to fall into place.
My partner, who’s into music creates his own music and owns a lot of cool machines I can’t name, was the first to suggest I try DJing. He said, “We need a female DJ at the restaurant” and without missing a beat, I said, “I can do it!” The idea of combining my love for music with a chance to have fun, get creative, and connect with people sounded like a dream. So we locked in, and he started teaching me the ropes of the DJ game.
At first, it was a learning curve, of course. I had to figure out the technical side how to mix, read the crowd, and understand how to keep the vibe alive. But what really kept me motivated was the freedom and creativity that came with it. Plus, I love hanging out with friends and being around people, so why not make money while doing what I love?
My friends even started calling me “Ms. Outside” because I’m always down for a good time, and DJing became a way to bring that energy to new spaces. It’s been an amazing ride so far, and every gig feels like another opportunity to keep growing, connecting with people, and having fun.
Being a mom and a DJ has its challenges, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. I’m so grateful for the support I’ve gotten, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me. DJing isn’t just about playing music it’s about creating memories and experiences, and I’m here for it all.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but the challenges have been part of what makes the journey rewarding. Like any new endeavor, DJing has had its ups and downs.
One of the biggest struggles early on was balancing my time. Being a new mom while learning the craft of DJing meant I had to juggle a lot. There were nights when I couldn’t practice as much as I wanted because of late night feedings or simply being exhausted. Finding that balance between motherhood, my personal life, and pursuing a new passion was tricky. But, with a lot of support from my partner, I made it work.
Another challenge was learning the technical side of DJing. There’s a lot to learn the gear, the software, how to beatmatch, how to read the room and keep the crowd engaged. I didn’t come into this with a technical background, so there were moments of frustration where I felt like I wasn’t progressing fast enough. But I’ve learned that every mistake is just part of the learning process.
The biggest challenge of all, though, has been getting past the self-doubt. As a female DJ, especially when you’re new to the game, there can be moments where you question whether you belong or if you’re good enough. Sometimes, it’s easy to compare yourself to others who’ve been in the scene for years. But the more I embraced my own unique style and trusted in my ability to bring something fresh to the table, the easier it became to silence that inner critic.
Despite the struggles, every gig, every small victory, and the support of my friends and family has made it all worth it. DJing has become my passion and a way to have fun while doing something I love. The road might not be smooth, but it’s been full of lessons and growth and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love incorporating fashion into my sets because to me, style and music go hand in hand. Just as the right track can elevate a moment, the right outfit can elevate the entire vibe of a performance. When I hit the decks, I always make sure I’m dressed to match the energy I’m bringing to the crowd. It’s not just about playing music it’s about creating an entire experience, and fashion is a huge part of that.
I’ve always loved fashion, and it feels natural to bring that element into my DJ persona. Whether it’s bold colors, unique accessories, or statement pieces, I try to make sure that my style reflects who I am stylish, confident, fun, and unapologetically myself. It’s all about expressing individuality, and I want my audience to feel that same sense of freedom and self-expression when they’re out on the dance floor.
Being stylish behind the decks also sets me apart in a way that makes my performances memorable. People don’t just remember the music; they remember the whole vibe, the look, and the energy I bring. It’s a way to show that I’m serious about my craft, but I also love having fun and making a statement. And who says you can’t look good while doing what you love? Fashion and music are both forms of art, and I’m all about combining them to create something unique.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’d love to share a little bit of encouragement for anyone thinking about diving into something new, whether it’s DJing or any creative pursuit. My journey has been full of unexpected twists, but what I’ve learned is that the most important thing is to just go for it. Don’t wait for the “perfect” time or until you feel fully ready. Start where you are, and take it step by step. You don’t have to have everything figured out it’s all about the journey, the lessons along the way, and most importantly, enjoying the process.
Also, remember to stay true to yourself. In a world where trends come and go, authenticity is what lasts. Embrace what makes you unique, whether it’s your style, your perspective, or the way you mix music. There’s no one else like you, and that’s your superpower. Surround yourself with people who support your growth and push you to be your best.
And lastly, never underestimate the power of having fun. DJing has taught me that some of the best moments happen when you’re just vibing with the crowd, being present in the moment, and enjoying the music. At the end of the day, it’s all about creating joy for yourself and for others. If you can do that, you’re on the right track.
Thank you for letting me share a bit of my story with you! Keep pursuing your passions, stay true to who you are, and keep having fun with it. The world is waiting for you to share your unique energy!
