Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Burrell.
Hi Micah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
How much time do you have?! Since a child, I have always been a creative. I would draw, paint, and sketch-like ALL THE TIME. As I developed my skills, I began to design clothing and outfits. I created fashion magazines by hand, which only included designs by ME lol. One time I took a pair of my jeans and turned it into a skirt! It had shredded jeans at the bottom for a fringe look lol. The girls sort of wear their shorts like that today.
I then began to get into beauty. I’ve always been a glam girl. I love big hair and shiny things. I always stayed up with all of the latest hairstyles and would do them on own hair. I would get asked about my stylist and I’d always refer myself.
It was not until college when I discovered my love for makeup. My roommate, now best friend Tori, introduced me to how you can create such a beautiful canvas just by using a few products. During the time, I wore NO makeup! EEK! Lol. My first purchased makeup item was a bottle of Maybelline foundation. I wore it to a semi-formal function. I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew I looked “new”. Over time, I experimented with different products and found that I had become obsessed!
I would get tons of likes on my selfies and realized that I could do this as a hobby. That hobby turned into my very own business- LASH LIFE COSMETICS. When I opened my cosmetic line, I only sold lashes. Not gonna lie, it’s pretty tough trying to sell a piece of hair that goes near the eyeball LOL. However, it was an experience that brought out my true passions. My passions are Business, Love, and Glam. Those things are the reason why I built a brand that has loyal customers, amazing reviews, and quality products.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been far from smooth. Til this day, I still get that feeling of closing shop. The world of beauty changes fast and at times can be very challenging to keep up with. Having this mindset would always have me launching unnecessary products that my audience didn’t ask for. Meanwhile, I have a loyal customer base begging me to bring “old’ items back that I discontinued because I was focused on the next big launch. Going through tons of samples, wasting tons of money, and going through unnecessary stress was definitely a huge struggle.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Outside of LASH LIFE COSMETICS, I am also a “corporate bae”. I am an Enterprise Customer Manager for a Software Development Company. My role is to be the voice of both my external and internal customers. I ensure all parties involved go home on one accord and we all get paid! I love working a full-time corporate job. It teaches me ways to stay current with the times, I love the business aspect of my job, I love talking to people. I always told my dad that I wanted to be a businesswoman when I grow up. My corporate jobs feed my serious side meanwhile LASH LIFE COSMETICS feeds my fun creative side. In the end, both life’s make the other successful.
I am most proud of my ability to find a way to enjoy all aspects of my life.
What sets me apart from others is my confidence. I say this because anytime I started to doubt myself, I allowed my confidence to lead the way. I typically take a “f**k it” attitude towards things and I take chances. Each time I take a chance and excel, my confidence bug smiles. If I don’t excel, I take the lessons on the chin and try again.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Humbleness. I feel this quality is most important because when you treat the janitor with the same respect as the CEO, you’ve mastered a level of groundedness.
