Rising Stars: Meet Michael Chappelle of Greenville SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Chappelle

Hi Michael, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Started off shooting a podcast with a good friend of mine with two iPhones and was gifted a camera for father’s day in 2023. Once I started really experimenting with the camera I fell in love with people watching through my lens and saw my ability grow into something I needed to take serious and started my photography business. It’s called Synlanguage Productions. The name comes from a play on Sign Language because both of my parents are deaf and it was a way to pay tribute to them since I am unable to trademark the actual language. Currently I have gotten to the point where I have a full fledged in home studio and am open for studio shoots as well as outdoor and event shooting.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To be honest, there have been small hiccups dealing with clients here and there but the learning curve has been really exciting and I seemed to catch on much faster than your typical photographer. I took my experience with graphic design and ability to bend light for video shoots and incorporated it into my photography and it has paid tremendous dividends.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a part time photographer and owner of Synlanguage Productions. I specialize in stylized portraits and am known for very vivid colors and framing of my subjects. I shoot blind meaning I can’t see what’s in the frame of my camera but for a moment before I actually click the shutter to capture the subject. I am most proud of how far along I’ve come professionally in such a short time.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I believe networking and mentorship is always a great thing however, not every mentor or peer group is for every person. It may take more than one attempt to find the right group for you and don’t allow that to discourage you. Also, there will be times where you see peers possibly growing faster than you feel you are and those are the moments you pat yourself on the back for your own growth. Your path is for you and no one else.
