Hi Mimi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Fashion has always been a passion of mine. At a young age, I wanted to go to UCLA school for fashion. Over the years, my interests changed. I studied nursing for 3 1/2 years, and then went on to study psychology and will be graduating with a BS in Psychology next May. Even though my interest ventured, my passion stuck with me. I started designing and making crochet clothing back in 2020. Since then, I’ve developed a rapidly growing and successful business selling my crochet masterpieces. I couldn’t just stop there, though. My love for fashion could not be limited to only the clothes I make. Over the last year, or so I have also stepped into the fashion influencer lifestyle, and have worked with, and been a primary face of over 20+ clothing boutiques,
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has been far from smooth, but that was to be expected in some ways. Being a mom, student, designer/ entrepreneur, on top of my need to fulfil my influencer duties can get overwhelming at times. I have gotten much better with managing everything and staying disciplined and balanced. In the beginning, though, it was difficult to find the right balance. It can be hard to prioritize the things you do when everything is a priority to you. Especially when they all, essentially, tie in together. And being the overachiever that I am, I couldn’t allow myself to slack in any aspect of my life. Aside from the difficulty with balance, I also struggled with self-doubt. As they say, you are your worst enemy when it comes to critique. There was times when I felt so discouraged and depressed. I struggled with appreciating my accomplishments because I always felt something could have been done better, or differently. I didn’t take the time to acknowledge all that I had achieved because I was too focused on what I hadn’t yet.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a rising clothing designer. I specialize in crochet apparel, but I do anticipate on including designs with fabric with crochet. I’m most known for my designs, and for my influence in the fashion industry. I am most proud of my accomplishments as a mom. I had my son at a very young age and have accomplished and have received many opportunities that people tried to deny me and thought I would never be able to have. Society has such a negative stigma against young parents, it feels good to know I have beat and am beating every odd that was against me. I would say it’s my purpose and dedication that sets me apart from others. Along with my authenticity.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson that I’ve learned is that you have to find your purpose in everything you do. When you find that purpose, hold on to it and never let it go. Never let anyone question, or doubt your purpose either. You’ll feel it, and you’ll know it to be true. There will be days that you’ll need to remind yourself of whatever your purpose(s) are.
