Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Weatherly.
Hi Morgan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been drawn to helping others—it’s just part of who I am. Even as a kid, I was the one friends came to when they needed to talk. I’ve also always had a creative side, but it wasn’t until my 30s, during a particularly difficult chapter of my life, that I really began to see how creativity and healing could intersect.
After going through a divorce, I found myself working multiple jobs to support my family—at one point, I was juggling five roles, including therapist, professor, florist, and manager. One of those jobs, working part-time at a friend’s flower business, became much more than just a way to earn extra income. It became a space for healing. Being surrounded by flowers, creating something beautiful with my hands—it offered a kind of therapy I hadn’t expected, but deeply needed.
That experience stayed with me, and over the years, I began to look for ways to integrate that creative, holistic approach into my professional life as a counselor. In July of 2024, I officially launched Clapping Trees Counseling and Consulting, a practice that brings together all the pieces of my journey—mental health counseling, relationship support, career and lifestyle guidance, and holistic approaches like outdoor sessions, walking therapy, art, and even floral design.
The mission of Clapping Trees is simple but deeply important: to support people as whole human beings—mind, body, and spirit. I’ve also had the privilege of partnering with Everyday Art, a nonprofit supporting emerging artists and individuals using art for healing and rehabilitation. It’s been a meaningful extension of the work I do and a reminder of how powerful creativity can be in the healing process.
It’s taken time, resilience, and a lot of hard work, but I’m grateful to be in a place where everything I’ve learned and experienced has come together in a way that allows me to support others in a more connected and authentic way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Looking back, I definitely have gone through a lot, but I am not sure any of us really get a smooth path. What really comes to mind when I think of the struggles to get to where I am now, is all the support I have had from my family and friends along the way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (and hold a PhD) and I specialize in working with individuals and couples on a myriad of issues including- career related issues, relationship issues, anxiety, OCD, and communication issues. I am unique in that I also offer walk and talk therapy, which I refer to as the “two birds one stone” approach. It’s essentially doing something good for your nervous system/body (being outside, taking a nice slow walk) and something good for your mental health. I also try to offer classes that integrate more creative wellness strategies like flower arranging for example!
I think other counselors would say they refer to me because I am very direct and I care deeply about providing good/sound therapeutic practice. I try to show up for my clients in the warmest possible way, and bring trust and honesty to my practice. I think my clients would say they appreciate my warmth and my commitment to helping them in a way that is congruent with their goals and values.
Side note- I also work as a consultant for family business and closely held partnerships. Another fun way I have been able to incorporate all my career experiences into one!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Wow, I have had so many amazing mentors, friends and cheerleaders along the way. Juli Vaughn of Juli Vaughn Designs is who gave me my start with florals (and helped me not completely fall apart during an incredibly difficult time). My friend Carlyn (another therapist) helped me to start thinking about how and why creativity mattered for me as a therapist AND for my clients. Shannon Jones and Ann Mashburn are two former employers that taught me so much about being a female business owner and how beautiful it is to create a brand that reflects your values. My recent partnership with Maureen Sullivan and Katie Carr at Everyday Art has been so fun and life-giving.
Also, my sweet family- Matt, Grayson, Gray and Camille…they bring me so much joy and put up with all my therapist speak/love for statistics. My mom and dad have also been some of my biggest cheerleaders, especially as I started my own business. Sounds silly, but my dog Ruby (a wannabe therapy dog) is an ever loving/loyal support. You may find her in my office too!
