Today we’d like to introduce you to Natsuko Darrell.
Hi Natsuko, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a pop realism artist based out of Atlanta. Originally from Tokyo, Japan. I have a pretty diverse background which helps me create a variety of different works of art. I try to include my background into my art or sometimes I just create based on my mood.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Art is expensive. Cost of Supplies to the amount of labor it takes, especially if you build your canvases as I do. Sometimes financial burdens can stop my work which can get stressful as this is my relief from everything. I always keep in mind that nothing worth having is easy. Life is full of obstacles and it’s up to me to take the hardships and turn it into something positive.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known for my pop realism paintings. I like to create huge paintings using big bright colors and the smallest little details that’ll leave your viewers in awe. The proudest moment I have is when I finish a piece. As an artist, I get distracted with other things I may want to start or create, especially if something at the moment inspires me. So staying focused and actually finishing an art piece is always a proud moment. I am who I am and there is no one in the world like me. My vision, dreams and ambitions will take me as far as I will let it.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Anyone can be successful if they just put their mind to it. For me, having integrity is one of the most important quality to have. It’s a rare and beautiful quality to have. I know what’s important and what’s true to me and that’s all I care about. I’ve walked away from deals and opportunities that I don’t feel or agree that’s true to me. Success is what you make it, I feel successful by just being able to paint and create.
