Rising Stars: Meet Nick Freddy of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Freddy

Nick, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
$alamanderX was formed in 2021 when frontmen Stevie Miles and Nick Freddy(thats me) were both unemployed for a week straight during the week of 4/20, after failed attempts at new jobs they were both unappy with following pandemic. Life-long friends, they wondered why they had never recorded a song together as they were both musicians in different genres/scenes. Stevie Miles had always been a successful rapper in the Underground ATL hip-hop scene and Nick Freddy fronted various metal bands in the ATL Metal scene. They planned to form the band after collaborating on two tracks that would later be titled “American Tragedy” and “Ho Ask”. After we started recording…we had so much fun we couldn’t stop, and the result was us recording some of the best material we’ve ever written. Over time we handpicked some of our best buds to fill our roster and when we were ready, we hit the stage as a band for the first time in mid 2023 with Dropout Kings. Today, we are all now moving forward and writing together as a team, which is very exciting. This year we have many exciting shows coming up and are stoked to explore new opportunities as we travel and grow. We are proud to show off the product of our hard work and chemistry which has elevated everyone involved in the project to new heights. Also, come to a show. If you haven’t seen us live, you are missing out on one hell of a party! 🙂

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has by no means been “smooth” and I don’t think it will ever be… but I will say it is the smoothest it’s ever BEEN in comparison to other projects I’ve been in. There’s always bumps in the road but we are analytical problem solvers that set ourselves up with longterm goals and aim to complete them. Everyone is financially stable and responsible. I don’t even think anyone in the band drinks….We are all just on the same page and locked in like a well oiled machine. It’s always gonna be weird getting outta your comfort zone but we all just seem to be about the grind just as much as one another which is amazing because It’s fullsend. I am so proud of this team.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Hmm I have cronic ADHD and tend to jump around creative environments. I have a small graphic design buisiness and a dayjob. I like to draw and arrange things so sometimes I do artwork for bands. I am an audio engineer and can’t seem to get enough of the pro audio world. Stevie and I run an underground booking/promotion agency called NoClass ATL and book shows together. I love making reels, videos, and content for social media. I love being involved in anything that helps the music scene really. Sometimes I just wanna play video games XD

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
No but I try to take a cold shower every morning
