Rising Stars: Meet Nikki Singh of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Singh.

Nikki Singh

Nikki, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Before being recognized as a content creator/influencer, I was making videos, generally of me speaking on my thoughts and Caribbean related experiences and such. I remember posting a video one night and going to sleep. I went to bed with maybe a hundred followers. I woke up with close to twenty four thousand followers. I was in disbelief initially, then I processed what happened. Three years later, I’m creating content, connecting people through shared cultural experiences, and of course, humor.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been smooth at at all. One thing people don’t talk about is the need for “thick skin” when deciding to appeal to larger audiences. I realized early on that some people may not like my content, and that is perfectly fine. Also, when sharing space on public platforms, it’s important to be respectful. As adults, we can agree to disagree. There will be “hate mail”, so to speak. But these days, I don’t let it bother me. It also was a struggle to find my niche in content creation. I had to feel out my audience and tap into other areas of content that wasn’t particularly my area of expertise. Ultimately, it has forced me to break boundaries and try new things.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in Caribbean based content. As a first generation American in my family, but also as someone who has had the opportunity to live in my parents’ country, I’m able to connect with the audience not just here in America, but also in Guyana as well as the rest of the Caribbean & West Indies. I’m most proud of the way I have been able to remind others of loved ones that may have passed or are older, based on the type of skits I create, especially those speaking to the mannerisms of Caribbean mothers. It’s been a blessing to be able to move people through humor.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I currently have taken up electronic journaling. It is a bit easier to get my thoughts out, especially with prompted questions. Considering how hectic my daily life can be, it’s easy to commit to consistency being that it’s done on my phone. Since I have been doing that, I’ve been finding more clarity in how and why I may feel and react the way I do to certain situations.
