Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Wade.
Hi Nikki, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been an artist for a long time. I was just a creative child and my mother made sure to cultivate my gifts and talents. I started in the theater at the age of 4, studied classical ballet and other forms of dance at the age of 8, started writing stories at 10 and singing on stage at 12. I’ve always loved entertaining and even after becoming a mom and moving to Atlanta, my passion for the arts just grew. So, I just kept moving with it, honed my skills as poet, host, radio personality and eventually developed into an event producer, screenwriter, casting director and filmmaker. The funny thing is, after all of these years of having my hands in so many different areas of entertainment, I’ve now come back to my foundation, which is acting and it’s been going quite well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always going to challenges in this journey called “life”. I’ve certainly had mine. Outside of regular “life” stuff, I’ve had people threaten my life and attempt to blackball me over gigs that I was offered. I’ve had to deal with overt sexual harassment and even had my written theatrical work stolen by a celebrity producer and saw it on Netflix. However, I believe in blessings and favor and I didn’t get this far for no reason. My accomplishments far outweigh the challenges I’ve had to overcome, and I still feel like I’ve made it through virtually unscathed.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the CEO of Divadom Entertainment Group and The Naturals Skin & Health skincare line. Through Divadom I have written, cast, co-produced and co-directed more than 100 events in theater, television, film, radio, live stage & concert tours. As I stated before, I’ve recently gotten back into acting, and over the past 3 yrs I’ve starred and co-starred in 3 independent films and 4 network tv shows (Snapped, Fatal Attraction, Storms of Suspicion & ATL Homicide).
My second company, The Naturals Skin & Health care line, was created for individuals who experience dry skin, mild to medium adverse epidermal conditions or just want their body to have a long lasting feel of smoothness and softness. Through a mix of natural emollients and therapeutic topical creams, our products do not leave a greasy or oily residue on the skin and leaves the body completely moisturized.
However, I think my proudest accomplishment is my non-profit: The Christine Marie Hunter Cancer & Dementia Fund for African American Sr. Citizens. This organization was inspired by my late grandmother who died from pancreatic cancer and had mild dementia, at the time of her death. The fund is designed to financially assist Sr. Citizens with whatever needs they have associated with their medical condition, whether it’s cancer, dementia or both.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that Atlanta still has that old school southern hospitable charm, with a progressive artistic flare and the cost of living is better than most big cities. Entrepreneurial success and land ownership is attainable, particularly for people of color. You can just live well and be whoever and whatever you want to be here. I really wouldn’t want live anywhere else in this country.
