Today we’d like to introduce you to Nyla Turman
Hi Nyla, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Nyla Turman. I am a 24-year-old local photographer based in Atlanta, GA. My passion for fashion, graphic design, and photography started when I was a little girl. I first explored photography in high school at Southwest DeKalb High, where I graduated in 2019.
After high school, I often found myself capturing moments of my friends and family on their phones, always finding the best angles and making them feel confident in front of the camera. It wasn’t until January 2023, when I received my first camera for my birthday, that I decided to take photography more seriously. I started by photographing close friends, and from there, my journey took off.
Photography brings me joy because it allows me to put smiles on my clients’ faces, boost their confidence, and help them step out of their shells to shine. As of 2025, I’ve grown my clientele, received numerous referrals, made new friends, and collaborated with talented photographers across Atlanta. I am excited to continue capturing beautiful moments and telling stories through my lens.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting my photography business came with its challenges. Getting my name out there was tough, especially in a competitive city like Atlanta. Gaining clients’ trust was also difficult due to negative experiences they had with other photographers, such as receiving their photos late or not at all. Balancing my photography business with my other job while finding time for clients and securing quality equipment was another hurdle. Finding reliable photographers to collaborate with was also a challenge, but each obstacle pushed me to work harder
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer specializing in commercial, street, editorial, headshot, event, wedding, kids, club, and black truck photography. I am mostly known for my black truck and creative studio photos, which allow my clients to feel both bold and elegant.
What I am most proud of is being able to create lasting memories for my clients. I treat every client like family, making their happiness my top priority. Capturing their most cherished moments and seeing their joy fuels my passion every day.
What sets me apart from other photographers is the strong team I’ve built. My team includes a creative director who helps guide clients with posing, a stylist, a hairstylist, and a makeup artist to ensure every detail is flawless. I also have a personal black truck driver who provides chauffeur services, adding a luxurious touch to my black truck photoshoots.
As a female photographer who works with many female clients, I understand the importance of feeling comfortable during a shoot. I create a welcoming, safe environment where my clients can feel confident, have fun, and truly express themselves while maintaining a high level of professionalism. I also offer advice on what looks best, guiding my clients every step of the way to ensure their vision comes to life.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck, both good and bad, has played a significant role in my life and business. Over the past few years, I’ve experienced a lot of personal loss, losing six beloved family members: my Uncle Robert, Uncle G, Aunt Gert, Aunt Leola, Uncle Roland, and Uncle Joe. Each loss was deeply painful, and navigating through grief while building my business was incredibly challenging.
In 2023, I also totaled my car, which made me question whether I could continue my photography business without reliable transportation. But I’ve always believed that where there’s a will, there’s a way. I put my trust in God and kept praying. Within a week, I found ways to keep going, making sure I could still get to my clients and continue doing what I love. That persistence paid off, and I started gaining even more clients.
Through it all, I’ve had the privilege to collaborate with talented photographers and studios like Keon McKay, Uptown, Cam Kirk Studios, Creative Block Studios, and more. Being part of Social Club Atlanta also gave me opportunities to grow, learn, and connect with others in the industry. Every setback has fueled my determination, and every blessing has reminded me why I’m passionate about what I do.
