Rising Stars: Meet Phillippia Williams McDougle of Stone Mountain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillippia Williams McDougle.

Hi Phillippia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Phillippia is the epitome of a musical phenomenon. Her sound is representative of all the influences in her life – a fusion of R&B, Soul, Gospel, Reggae, Jazz, and Hip Hop. Her powerful voice and command of the stage has earned her performances alongside industry greats such as Jill Scott, K-Ci and Jo Jo, Joi and a host of others. She has also been featured on tracks with violinist Ken Ford, Bow Wow, The Iconz and The Peabody Award Winning poet, Georgia Me. When backed by her live band, Urban Soul, Phillippia’s voice becomes yet another instrument bringing forth a raw, hypnotic energy that lifts captivates crowds.
In 2005, Phillippia earned a role in the Tyler Perry’s box office movie – Madea’s Family Reunion – where she performed an original song written by Tyler Perry himself and produced by Ronnie Garrett. The song ‘Look in the Mirror’ also appears on her 2006 album release, ‘Earth Child Rebirth’, which features additional production by Ken Ford.
In addition to selling out her regular appearances at Atlanta’s top music venues, Arizona’s and Gladys Knight’s Chicken and Waffles, Apache café and more, Phillippia was invited to perform live at an event for the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, D.C. During the end of 2010, she participated in the First Georgia Lottery All Access Music search, where she remained a strong contender all the way to the end and placed in the ultra impressive Top 3 of her category.
People Uplifting People In Life recently named her the Marshal to their weekly charity event to benefit The Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta, with her new single “Addicted 2 My Grind” as its official song.
After signing to i2 Recordings, Phillippia began working with legendary music producer Errol Michael Henry and his highly rated Sound Principle outfit on a beautiful new song entitled: ‘Because You Love Me.’ The compelling combination of a deep rolling bass line, funky guitars, and a stunning live string performance by The Urban Soul Orchestra – plus Phillippia’s soaring lead vocal is hard resist. ‘Because You Love Me’ will be released on February 21, 2017.
Now she is a Grammy Nominated artist in a collaboration album with Queen Sheba in 2024. She has opened up for many major artists such as arrested development, Rotimi, goodie mob(TMO Goodie) , BRICK, kendred, the family soul. and many. more. Coming from Miami, Florida born and raised moving up here Thanksgiving 1998 has been an amazing journey for me. As an independent artist, you still struggle because you don’t have a label that you sign under a promotion team things in that nature so everything I do is with my husband, Mr. Willie McDougle aka Mr McSaucestudios. . you don’t have a person dress you up or put your makeup on for you or do clothes changing for shows or booking tour dates. It’s always been my husband and I which I’m very thankful for and love. I thank God for the amazing phone that I have especially on Instagram. I realize that I am getting noticed more and more because of my gift and I am so fortunate and thankful for that. It means the world to me that what I do is not in vain.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s a struggle still
I still struggle,
sometimes I feel like I’m living to pay bills and not live but it’s OK because I know God has something big and better for me. That’s why I don’t give up. I have an amazing following I’m so thankful for and appreciate them so much and I always let my fans and followers know how much they mean to me.
It’s never been a smooth ride as an independent artist, but I see through it with God‘s guidance and thanks to my closest friends that I can say on one hand that keeps me on my toes.

What were you like growing up?
Wow, that’s a great question. Lol I’m born and raised Miami Florida. What was I like growing up? Well me being the oldest of four children…. Wow great question.. well growing up as a child was pretty cool. I love watching karate movies on Sunday so my brother Sister and I go practic it outside in the front yard. I was into sports. I was a track runner sprinter, I was a cheerleader before, I also played a little basketball, I did photography as a journalist in high school., But when I started performing my first talent show was singing Whitney Houston song called all at once at JFK junior high school, and I won that talent show
and that’s when I knew to start pursuing it.
