Rising Stars: Meet Rachel Spangler of Hiawassee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Spangler.

Hi Rachel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Howdy! I’m Rachel (my best buds and family call me Rae). I’ve loved art for as long as I can remember, and thankfully my Mom and Dad always encouraged me to be creative. My mama was musically talented, so she got me involved in band and orchestra at a young age. I was always drawn to art, but in high school my parents enrolled me in an oil painting class, and that opened up a whole new world for me.

I didn’t stumble into graphic design until college. I first worked toward an Associate in Studio Art, then decided to continue on and earn my Bachelor’s with a focus in Graphic Design. That’s when I realized I could bring together my love of art and design.
These days, I’m most passionate about branding, illustration, and wedding stationery. And when I’m not designing, you’ll probably find me hiking, reading, or doodling just for fun. 🙂

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nope! College was tough, and finding a creative job after graduation wasn’t easy either. I think a lot of creatives struggle in a corporate 9–5…I know I get burned out quickly in that kind of environment. I’ve also struggled with finding my “style” as an artist, but I’ve realised that’s actually what I love about art and design, not being tied down to just one thing. I enjoy digital art and design, but I also love the hands-on process of traditional drawing and painting. I don’t think you have to pick traditional over digital or modern over contemporary. Do whatever makes you happy!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a graphic designer and artist who specialises in event flyers, illustration, and wedding stationery I blend fine art with practical design. My background in illustration and traditional art gives my work a unique, handcrafted feel, while my design skills ensure everything is polished and effective. I’m passionate about designing branding that helps small businesses shine and creating keepsakes that honor life’s biggest moments.
