Today we’d like to introduce you to Ranijeon Shepherd.
Hi Ranijeon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
A senior fashion merchandising major at Clark Atlanta University, from Covington, GA. My love for fashion started growing in my heart at the early age of three. I remember my older cousins getting home from school at my grandma’s & there would be a plethora of vivid music videos with the sickest looks playing every day after 4 PM. Viewing this plus the unlimited Vogue subscriptions that arrived on my grandma’s doorstep helped ignite my passion for fashion. In 2019, once arriving at Clark Atlanta University & seeing how involved our creative community is, I knew I wanted to progress in the world of fashion. I joined multiple organizations around the AUC & slowly began to wardrobe style. To expand my creative repertoire more, in 2020 I produced, styled, & directed my first fashion film, “Don’t Break the f*cking omertà”. Which got about 20k views on Instagram, two months after its release. This sparked my drive into wardrobe styling. In 2021, I was grateful to land an internship as a wardrobe assistant within a NY/LA/ATL-based freelance creative agency named CRTV Plug. I began my early works here with artists such as Flo Milli, Gunna, & City Girls. With my passion overflowing more than ever, I began a career in market editing, which allowed my skill set to become useful when working with plenty of other talent. In 2024, I will be opening an archive shop by the name of “Geminaji Archive” which will host some of the rarest archive fashion finds in Atlanta,
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel every creative’s journey feels like a whirlwind. Today’s society is so invasive & close-minded, to the point where they don’t see the benefits in a creative work. There are some days where it’s like, I really love what I do. Yet, there is some that are so rocky, I question myself in regards to what else I’m passionate about. Wardrobe styling is fashion politics, financial issues, & an unpredictable work schedule all in one. Yet, to overcome this, I have practiced patience. As I know, that is the main thing that’ll forever keep me successful.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am your overall fashion head in all honesty. From wardrobe styling, fashion PR, creative directing, team curation, & market editing. I am your person! When it comes to my proudest moments, it has to be assisting styling on my very first tour at 21, with Flo Milli. That was definitely one of my biggest learning experiences in regard to the ups & downs of wardrobe styling on a tour + the type of skin you require for that type of job.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was heavily involved in the arts. My grandma has always been an enthusiast when it comes to anything in the creative field. So I was always in a play, musical, choir, or dance group. Something always kept my creative juices going during my upbringing as well.
