Today we’d like to introduce you to Rickay King.
Hi Rickay, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
From a young age, I always knew that I wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, but I was unsure of which avenue to pursue. It wasn’t until I discovered the transformative power of poetry and music that I realized my true passion. Growing up in Gainesville, Georgia, I had limited access to resources and knowledge on how to create and release music in a legal and professional manner. Nevertheless, with my father’s background in acting, I was exposed to networking events in Atlanta, where I initially presented myself as an actor. However, I found myself frequently discussing my passion for music and soon became enamored with the art of networking and learning from others in the music industry.
Driven by my passion and commitment to my craft, I made a daily hour-long journey to Atlanta to meet and connect with other aspiring artists while also consistently promoting my work on social media platforms. Through these efforts, I was fortunate enough to make meaningful connections with individuals who believed in my talent and passion. Eventually, I was introduced to the Playlist Academy, an artist development course that opened countless doors in my career and helped me become a more reputable artist in my city.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
This journey to becoming an artist has been anything but smooth sailing. When you’re starting out, nobody in your community knows you or cares about your music. You gotta hustle and work hard to make people believe in you and support your dreams. It’s tough, and I’ll be honest – there were times when I felt like throwing in the towel. Learning about the business side of the industry only added to the stress and frustration. I didn’t have anyone to guide me I had to do everything myself – plan my own music videos, direct and produce my own content, and hustle my way into rooms where I could be noticed.
But despite all the ups and downs, I’ve fallen in love with the whole process. Every day is a chance to learn and grow, and I’m constantly pushing myself to improve. I know that all the hard work and dedication will eventually pay off. It’s a bumpy road, but I’m determined to keep going and keep making music that I’m proud of.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a recording artist with a specialization in Hip Hop and R&B. I was born in Buffalo, New York, and spent a significant part of my childhood in the countryside of Gainesville, Georgia. In addition to my music career, I am a signed Actor and Model with AMT. As a Puerto Rican, I take great pride in representing the Hispanic community, especially those who have grown up in an American environment.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I have given myself a reason to wake up each day, and I approach life with humility. I am highly motivated and determined to succeed. When I set my mind on a goal, it is nearly impossible to stop me. I don’t allow others’ opinions to affect me. But the most important characteristic out of all of them is I recognize that my openness to constructive criticism is crucial to my success. I actively seek out feedback and advice because I know that it’s the only way to grow and improve.
