Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Bagley.
Hi Sean, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started learning graphic design and Adobe products in seventh grade. (2017) It was a digital media class, I first picked up a camera then, but photography didn’t appeal to me until 2020 during quarantine. I spent hours designing mockup cover art for my favorite artists. As I started to perfect my craft with digital design, I began to further my love for fashion and shifted from designing album artwork to designing clothing. I created countless designs with no actual plan for them. Then came 2020, I started becoming obsessed with photography and put my digital designs on pause for the time being.
I bought my first camera, then started snapping pictures of my friends and classmates mainly. It was my senior year of high school when I realized I had an eye for photography. I began shooting at my high school’s football games and small events. I then began planning for the future, I started my photography page and I wanted photography to be my source of income for my freshman year of college. I touched down in Atlanta and the first thing I did on campus was trying to meet as many people as possible to grow as a photographer. I took photographs of my peers and then I took pictures of Drake, 21 Savage, and other rappers during Morehouse’s homecoming concert, I posted the pictures and received a lot of good feedback on them which made me even more passionate.
Shortly after the concert was Thanksgiving Break, which is when I picked up digital design again. I was in my room designing and designing when I thought about an idea I had for two photography books one called “Deity”, and the other called “The Sinner”. I put the book idea on hold and decided I would use “Deity” to be my brand name. I then started playing around and came up with a couple of designs that I actually liked, one of the designs being my “Bullet Teeth Tote bag”. I began contacting manufacturers and now here I am today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. My parents supported me with everything, but it was a little hard to convince my parents to allow me even to purchase the camera. It was initially hard to get clientele and is still hard to do due to how many upcoming photographers and creators there are on campus, or in the city period. As far as designing, I often hit a block when creating or designing or end up working hard on something to hate it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a photographer and fashion designer. I like to do anything that entails creativity honestly. My proudest work would be my first tote bag release or the concert photos I took. What sets me apart from others is I never want to grow complacent, I want to continue to grow and. be the best version of me that I can be. With that being said, I’m always researching ways to be a better photographer, trying to learn from my peers, and I never stop designing clothes, regardless of how many designs I have.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Everyone has a creative mind, tap into your own creativity, if working a job is not for you then try to turn your hobbies and passions into a stream of income. There will always be negative people, and roadblocks but push through them or find a way around them.
