Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaquille Wharton.
Shaquille, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began my music career as just an admirer of the hip-hop art form. I was on the outside looking in while thinking how crazy it must to make something out of nothing. I remember being very hesitant on testing out my abilities until I received words of encouragement from my brother Sterling and my close friend Tyler. They were already recording music together at the time.
I finally decided to give it a try, and it was horrible, but I had this feeling that I wanted to keep going, and keep trying to be better, which leads me to today. Now I can say that I’ve grown so much sonically and music has giving me memories and experiences that I will never forget.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say that the road has not been smooth, but that’s what makes it great! I feel as though all the hard parts needed to happen in order to allow for the experience gained! If you can’t fight through the rough patches, then you won’t make it to the end.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a rapper/producer. I love making obscure and experimental hip-hop music. I am known for having my own style and approach to songs. I am most proud to have had the opportunity to connect mentally with listeners. What sets me apart is simply my ability to form my own organic sound.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I believe that you can find mentors within your peers. Everyone around you has some sort of knowledge and their own experience that you can possibly learn from.
