Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Cline.
Hi Sharon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved listening to audiobooks, and about eight years ago, I wondered how a person could become a narrator. I found the website ACX.com, which matches authors with narrators specifically for audiobooks. I made a profile and started recording books pretty regularly. I loved it! Voiceovers seemed like the natural next step, with the same equipment and software, producing and editing the audio clips. I signed up to take a voice-over course with Such A Voice, and I had a great experience! They wrote my demos specifically for me, and as soon as they were ready, I set up my website! I book most of my work on Voices.com.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggles I’ve had are mostly with myself in that I don’t always feel like I’m as successful as I’d like to be! I can be my own worst enemy sometimes and get in my head that I’m out of my depth; why do I think I am capable of being a voice-over artist, why do I think I’m special, thoughts like that. But then I have days where I feel really strong and happy and grateful. On the struggle days, I tell myself I’ve done the best I can, and if I knew what to do better, I would have done it. I can have peace with that!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a voice-over artist and audiobook narrator, and I’m the producer for The Chuck & Zee Show, who are very popular motorcycle enthusiasts and have a podcast once a week. Since I ride a motorcycle too, it’s been really fun to be part of their story! I’m also the host of “Fearless Formula” on the Business RadioX network, where I interview local business owners about the ups and downs of their industry. It airs live on Fridays at 3:00 EST. That’s been one of the most satisfying ventures to discover the backstories of business owners in my community. I’ve just started copywriting for a few local businesses, which I never had tried before, and I really love it! I’m most proud of the Harley-Davidson spot…I got really lucky in that being a Harley rider, I think it helped me identify with the copy. It’s interesting to think of what sets me apart…I suppose that no one has the exact same sound as me! That’s what I love about this industry…there is room for everyone! Everyone’s voice is special.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is when my parents took my brothers and sister, and I took Cape Cod when I was just a kid. I still remember so much about it! I have an affinity for New England.
