Rising Stars: Meet Sherry Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherry Scott.

sherry Scott

Hi Sherry, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We started to assist families raising children due to addiction. When Covid hit, we had to switch gears, and we started providing bags of love to kids in foster care, including toiletries, toys, books, a stuffed animals. Baby bags with diapers, wipes, toys, baby items, toiletries. We just recently launched Christmas last year. We had angel tree tags. For people to sponsor children. We have a birthday bag program now where we supply toys, books, a card, balloons, candles, and a birthday banner. Two days ago, we handed out 525. Backpacks to Children in the community or supplied by the businesses in our area.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggles for us are raising funds and getting donations as well as grants. Our nonprofit is a board member and two regular volunteers so we are on the very small side. It was difficult at first to find clients to give things to, now our struggle has switched to getting items to be able to help people. We take and use toys, books, games, baby items, toiletries, school supplies, and birthday items.

Paying the bills is trying at times because grants and donations go to the programs not necessarily the everyday bills like website, insurance, office supplies, etc.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are the only children’s charity that hands out toys in our area, as well as I believe in the Northeast of the United States. We focus on fun things like toys, books, games, and baby items to assist families with these extras that they may not have the money to purchase. When a child gets bored with a toy, they can bring it to our location and trade in for new ones. Leaving their toy available to be adopted by another child. It’s great to see a child pick out their toys and play with them before they even leave. That makes me happy.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can always reach out via our website for more information. We are always looking for people to help share our events, what we do, social media, and sharing. We are looking to open other branches, as we are growing every day and setting up for that. My cell phone is 272-201-8633.
