Rising Stars: Meet Sherry Sharee

My biggest accomplishment yet is being able to complete my first book, I use to talk about it all the time, but to see my work and to gain support from readers has been an awesome experience. One day I hope to be able to write on “Tyler Perry’s team, that’s my biggest goal!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road especially being in a city with no family. I’m very thankful for my four beautiful children and husband. However, just trying to find your fit in an unfamiliar place and trying to make things happen for yourself can be hard. I definitely had some crazy situations in the past four years that could have broken me completely. Being a young mother in a marriage, you can really lose your identity. I went through a very bad depression, some days I didn’t even recognize what was happening to me and I was afraid to speak about my mental health to my family, and it really took a toll on my day to day. I just knew I had a strong faith and a praying mom that got me through all of it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an Author, Singer, Songwriter, Mentor and Entrepeneur. I’m most proud of my new book “Trap Love” by Sherry Sharee. Once you start reading it, you can’t put the book down. I will be working on part two in the coming months and launching first apparel line.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I didn’t have a mentor or anyone to assist when I first started, I really researched and did the work on my own, this is one of the reasons mentoring is important to me. I really want to help and inspire someone who doesn’t know where to start. I did have a few good friends and family along the way. They were my support system. A very small support group of people that actually knew me on a personal level. I knew they wanted the best for me; they kept me motivated and I did the work. I really have seen a positive impact on my brand.

My advice is to find one or two people that really believe in you and really see the talent that you have and ask them for the genuine support. Those are the people you want in you corner. I honestly don’t want anyone around me that see me as a competition or take my talent a joke. So, if you have that around you, move accordingly.
