Today we’d like to introduce you to Shuneil Gadson.
Shuneil, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a Huntsville, Alabama based makeup artist with eight years of development in the makeup industry. My love for makeup stemmed from an artistic background of drawing and modeling. From there, I began to practice on friends and family until one day a co-worker pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to do her wedding. From that day forward, I began to take my craft more seriously and knew that in order to be more developed in the makeup industry, training was needed.
With help from my mentor, I began working at Pro Makeup Artist Studio in 2016. establishing myself as a creative professional with an instinctive ability to bring out the unique beauty of my clients, regardless of ethnicity. In 2018 , I began my development as a photographer. As a makeup artist and aspiring photographer, I’ve learned how to communicate with my clients in a way that allows them to become vulnerable in the makeup chair and in front of a camera. Capturing life events, celebrating my client’s goals and bringing their vision to life in front of the camera and behind the makeup, chair bring me so much joy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve been extremely fortunate that my road has been smooth, yes there have been challenges along the way but I can say that having a mentor made a difference for me. I was able to miss some of the struggles that most artists typically have when they first begin in the industry. One of my biggest struggles has been work-life balance. Being in a service-based industry you have to learn quickly how to be available for your clients and not neglect your own personal responsibilities.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a makeup artist and aspiring photographer. I specialize in natural airbrush makeup for the everyday woman. I am also known for photographing my clients in their most flattering way that makes them actually enjoy being in front of the camera. I’ve learned how to communicate with my clients in a way that allows them to become vulnerable in the makeup chair and in front of a camera. What sets me apart from others is that I am a one-stop shop. Not only can I do your makeup but I can take your photos as well, saving my clients time and money.
