Rising Stars: Meet Smart Boy Beatz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Smart Boy Beatz.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in the small town of Aberdeen, NC. Because I came up in the church, I was introduced to music at a young age and supported by a family of musicians. I got introduced to FL Studios and started producing music when I was still in high school and all the way through college. I linked up with iStandard Producers in 2016 to do my first producer showcase and from there, I began to interact and a ton of different artists, producers, and music executives. Now, I am the owner and operator of Smart Boy Beatz LLC. I spend my time recording, mixing, mastering, and collaborating with the community of creators in Atlanta and surrounding area and I host my own podcast Smart Wave Radio streaming on the major social platforms every Tuesday at 8pm EST.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an artist/creative of any sort is never a smooth path. If it was then I believe everyone would be successful in it! Starting out, a lot of the struggles I faced were internal. I was so self-conscious and such a perfectionist (still am) that I would not even try to post it. I thought keeping the music hidden until it was asked for would strengthen my credibility as a producer. That is not it lol. Keep in mind who you have around you while you’re on this journey too… Just because it looks like they are on the same path, you still have your career to think about. Remaining consistent and surrounding myself with the right people helped to propel my career to where it is today. Without going into too much detail, it has not been a smooth road, but when you hit a pothole; pull over, change the tire and keep going. In time, things change. Invest in yourself, your equipment, and the people around you.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a music producer. I produce, record, and engineer projects for my clients on a variety of occasions. I’ve done albums, EPs, YouTube channels, podcasts, marching band shows, Commencement Ceremony music, remixes, and drops for DJs, and am currently working on some music for TV and film. I am known for my unique style of producing and specific touches. Music is one of the purest forms of expression and the piece that connects us all. My job is to make those solid connections to whatever we are hearing and if not, then together, we restructure, re-strategize, and try again. My clients appreciate the fact that I carry myself professionally outside of the music, am easy to work with, and can feel my passion for treating their work as my own. I am proud of the fact that my business is growing via word of mouth from my clients. People know that if they work with me, they are going to get more than what they originally asked for and it will be something that makes their brand or their product stand out.
