Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Serrano.
Hi Steven, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
i started back in 2000 , never had plan to be a dj. but thanks to some friends they got me hooked. if it wasnt for them i would never be where i am today. And we still continue to work together as a “family”. so as time went on i practiced and practiced… played a ton of free gigs and festivals to where i was confident enought to do my own thing. the crazy part of this story is i started as a latin dj who didnt speak any spanish at the time. so at first i was strickly into doing latin nights and as time moved on i broaden my love for music and became a multi genre dj. playing multiple clubs and shows, opening for famous artist and acts. at the the time it was mainly hip hop , latin and top 40s. became very good and played at many local club and was able to play with some famous and even some local radio djs and that went on until 2020, right before covid met some djs on the way that open path to the edm industry thru my brother who is also a dj. together we tried to bring the coulture to the city of augusta to where it was lacking. after the covid era me and my bestfriend decieded to go full force in cultivating and growning the edm scene in our city. putting together a one night a week spot for the local edm djs to come do there thing hoping to build something for the community. while still maintaining residency at several local clubs.
around 2023 me and my bestfriend decided to go all in on make edm a thing in the city of augusta. reached out did a lot of networking and made connections with like minded people like us. started a collective and took control of the scene. started putting small shows together still giving opportunities to our local edm djs while bringing in out of town djs to try to bridge the gaps between atl ,savannah, columbia, athens. i have totally embraced the edm scene and coulture. i have a big love for house music. it is my goto and it allows me to put my feelings out on the dance floor..best feeling to watch people dance to what i put out. so after 26 yrs this where im at and what i do ….. the short story!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
never was a smooth road, every day is a learning process. being a latin dj who started not knowing any spanish was my hardest hurdle, got criticized alot for it.
the other is just getting good at the craft.. lot of haters (well at the time of coming up)
being the only hispanic/white dj in the area playing in alot of hip hop clubs
currently i wouldnt say its a struggle but definitely a challenge is maintaining the local edm scene, we push so hard to become as big as some of these bigger cities we are getting but it will never be a smooth ride
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
