Today we’d like to introduce you to Sway Jones
Hi Sway, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As far back as I can remember, I have been an artist. Art has brought me so much joy and calmness. Raised by my grandmother in Mississippi, I remember carrying my sketchbook everywhere with me. I would draw the couch, the house plants, the dining set, and even recreate the wall art. I started my business early; in elementary and middle school, I would draw decorative bubble letters of my friend’s names for snack money. Drawing and later painting remained active hobbies throughout high-school. As a college major, I studied visual arts at the University of Southern Mississippi. After my longer-than-average college career, I began painting and designing full-time evolving my childhood passion into my now flourishing career.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As an artist and entrepreneur, I experienced difficulties that have made my journey vivid, colorful and bright. The road would dull and dim at times, but each obstacle turned into a valuable lesson. With the wisdom of knowing that, I practice approaching challenges with a different and more positive perspective. Entrepreneurship as an artist consists of dreaming of the future. I remind myself frequently to “Be Present”, a slogan that I use to represent my brand. Enjoy the present moments and allow the journey to take care of the rest.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work as a visual artist and designer is inspired by the Pop Art Era, a combination of color-blocking, high chromic color interaction, and figure art. My name is followed behind with,” the painter”, as I replicate figures that show my true talent with a paintbrush in hand on social media. The creativity that fuels me comes from my many followers and clientele. Each request from my loyal clients allows me to deliver the many variations of artistic projects. From graphic design, branding content, product labels, fashion or product mockups, statement wall art, family portraits, or building murals. I enjoy each project, and my work expresses the passion and love I have for my craft.
How do you define success?
I unite success with my overall happiness. To be both happy and successful means to practice daily balance and thrive mentally, physically, and financially. To successfully balance all three areas brings me the most peace and fulfillment, equating to overall success. I believe these theories bleed through my work as an artist. Understanding my clients allows me to expose the peace in my art. Finding the resources to fulfill the piece financially makes the work more personable. And understanding the mentality my clients are in during their request has better made for long connections. My craft plays a part in my successes, and I am so happy to be doing what I love every day. I continue to show thanks to all that see what I love, “Being Present with Art” -SWAY
