Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Stephens.
Hi Sylvia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Everyone always ask, Sylvia what made you get into makeup? I use to fear that question because of how I grew a love for makeup and it wasn’t until I was completely healed that I was able to tell the story, It’s been a few years. My love for makeup started back in 2016/2017. I was in this relationship where I was always being told, “you need to start doing your makeup like so and so and you need to wear it like this and blend like that” and the entire time I’m being told I needed to wear makeup my self-esteem was being crushed because I thought I wasn’t beautiful enough how I was. It wasn’t until I left that relationship that I realized what the devil meant for bad(the hurtful words, lowering myself esteem, making me feel like I wasn’t enough) that God took that very thing and used it for my good. Years went by and I kept at the makeup, I took classes, I studied the best brands to use and I built myself back up by changing my perspective on how I saw makeup.
Makeup is not a cover-up because you’re not beautiful enough no, makeup is an enhancer to your beautiful features that’s already there. I have been doing other’s makeup for about three years now and just last year, 2021 I launched Zhane’Cosmetics which is my cosmetic line and an extension of my makeup business. What I always tell my clients is that no matter what you’ve endured all week long or even all day before they got to my chair. We are gonna add some enhancement to your beauty and you will be able to go out and conquer your day. Why? Because when you look good, you feel good!
Zhane’Cosmetics is here to remind every women of all shades that the makeup doesn’t have you, you wearing it with your beautiful self queen.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth road? Nah lol. But the road to being a successful entrepreneur is never smooth. I mean in fact failure is needed to be successful. Sylvia why are you saying that? I’m glad you asked because without something going wrong or something failing how would you ever become better, greater? My first face I did on someone other than myself was in 2018 and her face was giving Casper the Ghost. Now if I would have got it right the first time, I probably wouldn’t have took a class to better my gift or I probably wouldn’t have switched up my products or techniques along the way because why I thought I had it all together. Not only that but when I dropped my cosmetic line, I had a few hiccups with the eyeshadow palettes and the color choices of my glosses. Some didn’t sell at all but again if everything would have went so smooth the first go-round I probably wouldn’t have sought after other product’s/colors/etc. that my clients would actually love. And so because of some failed attempts and do overs, I can finally say I’ve currently found what my buyers love but guess what I’m Still not done growing because every round goes higher, every next level goes higher and with that being said, there is more enhancing I will be doing for Zhane’Cosmetics.
So no, entrepreneurship is never easy but the journey is worth the ride to success.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a makeup artist out of Tampa, Fl. And I also am the founder of Zhane’Cosmetics. I’m this season of my business/career I am known for my glosses that I dropped summer of 2021 and my growing faces. I am currently proud of myself particularly for not giving up this go round and staying consistent rather I get 1 like or 100 likes. Over the years one thing that I learned is that someone is always watching and the beauty in it all is you never know who that someone is so KEEP GOING and I had been doing just that.
What sets Zhane’Cosmetics apart, glad you asked. We are not a company that do makeup and sells products for money, no! We do it to encourage and uplift the women that’s in the chair or the buyer that’s on the website that you are beautiful and you got this. Why because when a women gets dolled up, Hair, makeup and throw on a lil gloss, we feel like we can conquer whatever life as to offer and that my goal as the founder to recharge someone’s self-esteem and remind a queen that the makeup don’t have you, but you are wearing it. You’d be surprised how a simple compliment and a lil makeup will change a person’s entire perspective of the day.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned and still have to remind myself is REMAIN CONSISTENT.
