Today we’d like to introduce you to Tashia Tate.
Hi Tashia , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story began like anyone else’s, working two jobs to put myself through college as well as to make ends meet. I began my degree major in Film & Technology at the Griffin technical college Southern Crescent. Prior to going through multiple internships within my major I found my childhood deep rooted passion, modifying cars. Growing up on the Southside of Atlanta car culture is very high and alive. I have always grown up around car events, workshops, car meets and watching any woman racer or cruiser I could with dreams of wanting to be the lady behind the wheel saying, “I can do that.” Now into my adulthood I have strengthened my ability to blend filming and bringing my passion for modifying cars to reach new and aspiring heights with people.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
With every new beginning naturally comes its challenges. I sadly wasn’t welcomed in the modern-day car culture with open arms as one hopes to expect. Deep down I knew my entrance wouldn’t be too accepting being that this is a male dominated industry. I have had multiple setbacks, financially, physically and even mentally with the negative comments and even death threats I’ve received for what I deem as “just pursuing my passions.” Yet with all that has occurred I’m grateful to have grown passed and learn to keep my mind moving forward. At times I’ve wanted to give up, however I start to think about the other young women that I don’t know that I could be inspiring to follow their passions despite the adversity.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the executive director of my multiple businesses. Their duties vary from publishing, advocacy, public service, to enthusiast of different motorsport events. I am currently known for as a lady with wheels, a camera and a dream. Bringing a unique blend of Southern charm and raw creativity to the scene. When I’m not perfecting my craft in music, you can find me under the hood of a car, channeling my passion for restoring and customizing rides. Whether it’s in the studio, or the garage, I’m always working on something fresh and exciting. I’m truly most proud of my journey and where it will take me. The fact I had the courage to pursue and try so when I’m 60 I won’t have regrets of “I should have done that.”
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I have recently purchased the book “The Artist Way” by Julia Cameron so I can’t wait to dive into that and see what’s in store. This may seem cliche yet any “For Dummies” books you can think of. They have helped me learn all different forms of trade when it comes to learning a new skill fit for a lifetime. As well as YouTube I know we all think everyone knows everything yet even the best says, “Hold on let me look this up on YouTube.”
