Today we’d like to introduce you to Taye Martin
Hi Taye , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It’s not an amazing story of how I became a Dj. Music has always been my saving grace! During bad times, I would play music, During good times I would play music. Anytime I was invited anywhere, everyone always wanted me in charge of the music. All I had was a Bluetooth speaker and a IPad. I was getting so many request to play music, I figured, I might as well become a Dj.
I know God lead me on this journey, after all l knew nothing about being a Dj.
I reached out to a couple of Dj’s online and expressed that I would like to learn how to dj. I even offered to work for free just to get some experience. I asked around for tips and what equipment I needed to invest in. None of the dj’s responded back to me. At the moment all seemed hopeless.
One day a just googled dj equipment and a add for Sweetwater popped up. I gave them a call and told them what I wanted to do and the adviser lead me in the right direction to make his commission quota.
The equipment came in and it sat in my living room for about 3 months. I was over whelmed and completely intimidated. I tried to read the directions and connect the equipment and I couldn’t figure it out.
When all else fails, youtube university it is. I learned everything I know from youtube. From there I developed into the Dj I am today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I believe my biggest obstacle was over coming my soical anxiety. I use to have panic attacks just going to the grocery store. I took my greatest fear and attacked it head on. I’m not going to lie, sometimes I still get nervous.
I have always been the shy kid, soft spoken seen but not heard. I had to create a new version of myself in order to even be able to be who I wanted to be and do the things I have always wanted to do. When the music comes on I transform into the one and only Dj NewMe not The Old Me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I knew when I got into the business,
I had to be different from everyone else! There are a lot of great Dj’s in Atlanta. I knew I had to have the best customer service, the best equipment and the most options for my clients! So I invested heavily into special effects, Like snow machines, projectors, three different cold sparks machines as well as dancing on the clouds just to name a few.
What sets me apart from other Dj’s, is I’m a entertainer. I am a professional Dj, line dance instructor, comedian, MC and officiant. My super power is I can teach anyone to line dance in less than 3 mins and I can read the crowd!
The average dj provides music, I provide entertainment and it’s finest!
