Today we’d like to introduce you to Teya Deleveaux.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in GA. I received my first point-and-shoot camera in middle school and dabbled here and there with it. In college, I was given my first DSLR and fell in love! I started taking pictures for fun as a creative outlet.
After college, my love for photography developed more as a hobby. I was yearning to learn more and soak up as much knowledge as I could. It started with landscapes but when my daughter was born, my focus changed. In taking her monthly pictures, I was motivated to do more creative sessions and I started to gravitate towards portraits.
Over the last few years, I decided I wanted to take my photography to the next level. I’ve tried to take any opportunity I could! I have captured moments of friends and family, proposals/engagements, parties, wedding showers, portrait sessions, first birthday sessions, I have taken any opportunity to get my feet wet! I am so grateful that I am able to photograph memories for people. I enjoy those moments in time where the emotion is so pure and authentic. My hope is that my clients can cherish and look back on the special moments in their life through my pictures.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Over the last couple of years, my journey in photography has had highs and lows. It has not been a smooth road, but I have definitely learned from the lows. I learned from other creatives and have gained more confidence in myself throughout it all. I think my initial struggle was balancing a full-time job and also pursuing photography part-time. Trying to balance all my other responsibilities while still giving photography 110% was challenging at times. I also think another struggle was a lack of confidence in myself. I found it challenging to understand why some people may like your work and some people may not. I learned that in this profession, I can not please everyone. I learned that I have to be confident enough that I put my best foot forward and my best work out there for my clients in every shot. Every day I learn something new about photography and just embrace where I am on this journey.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love to be inspired by what’s around me from music to nature to my daughter’s laughter. I love to create! I capture portraits, lifestyles, and families. My niche is definitely engagements and couples’ photography. Who doesn’t love “love,” right? I definitely have a calling for photography. I enjoy growing, learning, and sharing my views. What I’m most proud of is finding my creative voice and taking a leap from a hobby to pursuing photography as a career.
What sets me apart from others is my connections and building relationships with people. I’m a natural empath and thrive off of people’s energy and emotions. When I’m behind a camera and looking through a lens, I want people to really feel the moment and see the beautiful world that I see. I love to take experiences and to capture the raw emotion in real-time. I feel lucky to witness other people’s special moments in life.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think my characteristic that is most important is devotion. I’m very devoted and always willing to go the extra mile for my clients. I constantly want to build that connection and maintain professionalism. I care so deeply about pursuing my photography career and capturing those magical moments for my clients. I always ask my clients about their goals for the session, how they want to feel, what they are nervous about. My goal in every photo shoot is to capture moments that are unique for them and turn those into treasured memories.
