Today we’d like to introduce you to Thee Muses
Hi Thee, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Adrienne Muse and my wife is Janeeka Muse. We have been together for 12 years, married for 10, and our journey really started when we built our art business in Los Angeles. I’m a self-taught artist and even taught my wife how to paint, which is a passion we still share today. Over time, we’ve combined our talents in art, social media, and activism, using our platforms to not only create but inspire and engage with our community on topics like LGBTQ+ rights and mental health.
Through our social media presence, we’ve grown a following of over a million people across platforms like TikTok Instagram ,and Youtube. We’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with major brands, host panels, and even planned a community-centered event like our Artlanta After Dark: Thee Muses Halloween Gala in Atlanta that was on October 31st. Our path has been one of creativity, resilience, and staying true to who we are, both as partners and creators.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road as with any business there are some struggles you face. One of the things we’ve had to learn to along the journey is how to balance work, home, and our mental health. I’m a huge advocate for prioritizing mental health and the importance of taking care of yourself and your family. There have been moments when at times work and reaching our goals have been the forefront in our lives and the need to keep pushing forward can overwhelm yo sometimes so it’s important to find that balance of it all. Standing out as an artist on social media hasn’t been easy either—sometimes, it feels like my content gets suppressed, and I have to work even harder to get my art noticed or even seen by just my followers alone and in a world where social media is prominent, it can be frustrating at times but I always find my way. When it comes to the content we put out together, It’s easy to get caught up in the numbers—likes, views, followers—and let the demands of social media take over. We’ve had to remind ourselves to prioritize what’s truly important: our well-being and staying true to our creative passions, not just the metrics.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a self-taught artist that specializes in oil, murals, digital art, and other multimedia. (Adrienne Muse) As social media creators I’m known for blending visual art with activism, focusing on themes like LGBTQIA+ rights, mental health, and empowerment and we also incorporate that in our content together as well. My art varies with a lot of mixed media like oil painting, digital art, and mural work, but what sets me apart is my ability to integrate social justice and personal storytelling into my art. I’m most proud of the impact my work has had on people, from collaborating with major brands to connecting with others through our creative and authentic content.
Together, as Thee Muses, we utilize our platforms to inspire the LGBTQIA+ community and express ourselves not just through art but our interests. To show up as our authentic selves and allow people a little bit into our world but also to show viewers that life is meant to be lived and do it the best way you can. We accept our community as they are and they do the same for us because all you can be in this life is yourself.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Networking has done well for me and I would say that the best way to network is to put yourself out there. Just be your authentic self and just do it. Not just on social media but also put yourself in the rooms where you want to be. There are always small avenues that you can take to put yourself on the scene of where you need to be so don’t get in your way. Do whatever it is that you need to do to go after what it is that you want in life
