Hi Tierra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After facing many rejections and proving naysayers wrong, I decided that I wanted to do my own thing as a dancer/choreographer. So, I created 💄Girls Night Out💋 and opened it up to the public for anyone like myself to come and take lessons, but most importantly, have a fun night out! By that point, I had already been teaching, but the longer I held classes, the more I realized how in control and safe it made me feel as a self-taught dancer.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest obstacle was getting started. I didn’t know how to book a studio; my choreography wasn’t the greatest and people would laugh at me in rehearsals. Once I crossed over and took the leap, my next obstacle was posting my progress on social media and getting students in the door.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the Founder and Owner of A Dancer’s Touch. I give braid services to a private group of clientele and teach heels dance classes known as 💄Girls Night Out💋 that are open to the public. I am most proud of proving naysayers wrong and watching my class and skills continue to grow! What sets me apart is that I don’t feel the need to fit the narrative of what society says a dancer should be. Dance comes from a special place within, and I understand that each one of us has a different story to tell, and I’m telling mine unapologetically!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I watch Mel Robbins, Gary Vee, documentaries on musical artists, motivational topics on YT and utilize the Masterclass app to learn more on branding and growing as an entrepreneur. For dance, I try to limit how much of someone else’s choreography that I take in so that I keep my personal style. If I do, I’ll just take a local dance class so that I never lose the foundations of dance.
