Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Mensah
Hi Tracy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Kumasi, Ghana (West Africa), the oldest of 3 children and the only girl. My mother owned a salon business back home called “Pink Roses”. She worked as a hairstylist from the time she was pregnant with me until we migrated to the United states when I was 2 years old. Ive always been in the salon environment and around entreprenurers my entire life. Braiding was not a skill I learned, it just came naturally. I started braiding in a local braiding shop close to my school in Lilburn, Georgia during my junior year in high school. I graduated, and had my first child at 19 years old. Being a single mother without a college degree was extremely difficult. I continued working in various local salons to support my child and my college education. I’ve always been someone who loves to brighten the days of others, and for this reason I was aiming for a career in nursing. In 2020 when COVID 19 shut down the entire world, I made the decision to drop out of college to pursue my dreams. During this transition I realized that working in the braiding shop was a huge set back for me. I was being paid little to nothing while exerting so much time and energy into the work. The Lord used COVID as an opportunity to bless me. I was pregnant with my second child and decided to launch my own braiding business. While the shops were closed, I was able to safely operate my braiding business out of my home office. Now I have my own mini salon with multiple stylists who work under me and are being paid more than triple what I was making when I was working in the braiding shop. My name is Tracy Mensah, I am a 27 year old married mother of three beautiful children, two handsome boys and one beautiful princess and my story is just a testiment to the goodness of God.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are many obstacles that present themself when pursuing your dreams. My largest obsticle I would say was establishing a talented and reliable staff that would be willing to service my clients with the same love and dedication that I put into all my services.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a master braider specializing in all things braids. I am most known for having the neatest braids in Atlanta, and I am most proud of the quality of my services and the amazing client base I have built because of that. What sets me apart from others is the fact that I am not just the C.E.O but I am very hands on with my business and have amazing relationships every single one of my clients.
How do you define success?
I define success as acheiving financial freedom through doing what you love.
