Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyrell “Ty” Crawford.
Hi Tyrell “Ty”, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I fell in love with writing in middle school and never stopped. Growing up between Putnam County, GA and Decatur, GA writing and sports helped me to cope with a rough exterior and kept me away from the streets.
I was introduced to Hollywood in 2012 on USA’s Necessary Roughness. I was casted as a stunt double by Game Changing Films and began learning everything about the industry from them. 11 years later I still work with Game Changing Films as a sports coordinator and athlete.
From there I realized that writing and directing was possible so I became a production assistant to learn everything I could about the industry. After working on many great films like Baby Driver, American Idol, Braxton’s Family Values, Focus, American Ninja Warrior, American Underdog, King Richard, All American and several more, I was ready for the next step.
I landed a job at Tyler Perry Studios as the executive assistant to the Vice President of the studio, Mark E. Swinton. After working under Mark and Tyler Perry for two years, I learned everything about producing, directing, casting and writing. From there I was blessed with the opportunity to write for 2 shows at TPS, Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living and Tyler Perry’s BRUH.
I currently write for those shows along with writing, directing, producing, casting and stunt coordinating my own projects. I partnered with Miguel “Mike Anthony” Espino and with his help, started 2 production companies Ty Films and T&M Powerhouse Media while working with him on his company, InDCity Productions. We’re geared up to film and produce several projects in 2023 and beyond.
With God, family and film in my life, the future is bright. My lovely wife Lanie, my daughter Charlie and my son Alex are my largest motivations and keep me on my toes every day. My mother, Teresa created the spirit to dream and belief that anything is possible. With God, I’m a living witness that this is very true. With faith and hard work, absolutely anything is possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road the entire time, several things go wrong in this industry but they all became lessons and helped me to foresee problems in future projects. I’m grateful for all of the things that have gone right and the things that have gone wrong.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m most known as a writer, director and producer of films. I plan to be the best to ever do them all when it’s all said and done.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is the time spent with my great-grandfather Alexander Crawford. He passed away when I was 5 but shaped the patience and the old soul that I possess now.
