Today we’d like to introduce you to Wesley Felix.
Hi Wesley, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My beginnings started with my parents coming over from Haiti to the United States in the mid to late 1980’s and settling in Tampa, FL to make what I know as my hometown. My father who was often a charismatic individual, instilled in me at an early age the inner makings of what becoming a man is and/OR would be before my time of actually becoming one however, out of the many, one of the instillments, I embodied the sense of fragrance and how one carries himself to this very day. Those who know me quite well have often told me “Wes, what is that cologne you have on? you smell good!” while replying mostly “it’s not what’s on me but, what’s in me” which ultimately became the staple slogan of the company I created. Quintesscents, was founded and LLC’d in 2018 and embodies those same core principle values we’d like to convey to our consumers that is: 1). Essence; defined as the core nature or most important qualities of a person and 2.) Quintessential; the most perfect or typical example of a quality or class.
I understood early on that there is a presence needed particularly for a black businesses that offers high-quality, aromatic natural oils to propel a line whilst creating an experience for our consumer at the same time. My vision for Quintesscents, LLC is to create a full line of products that represent every individual(s) that embodies the same quality and class as mentioned earlier and continues to drive them into the future with the understanding that every product counts and our fragrance which can be very therapeutic is second to none. After moving from South-Florida to Atlanta in 2020, Quintesscents, LLC is 100% minority-owned and is home-based in Atlanta currently and plans to ensure its brand emergence for our scented candles, fabric softeners, home and auto air-fresheners just to name a few targeting the growing but, often overlooked black community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always and never is a smooth road with some of the challenges being:
1.) Expanding the cycle of customer may take time
2.) New business in an area with existing competition
3.) Growth may be slow due to unforeseen circumstances such as COVID-19
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an IT Network Engineer and have been in IT professionally since 2014 and certified in Cisco CCNA since 2016. Not one who likes to speak about himself so I would say what sets me apart from others is my ambition and passion…my mother always told me if you’re going to do something give it your all and I approach that in professional, personal and business.
