Rising Stars: Meet William Johnson of Atlanta, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Johnson

William, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story started in a church, leading a simple Bible study that eventually led me to become a youth pastor. While serving in that role, I felt a deep conviction—God was telling me that I needed to reach the kids beyond the church walls and meet them where they were. That calling led me to accept an invitation to speak at a juvenile detention center. What began as a single speaking engagement turned into an eight-year journey that has shaped my mission and the work I do today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path has not been smooth. One of the biggest challenges has been carrying the weight of the trauma that so many of these young people experience. Their pain becomes personal, and figuring out how to truly help them—beyond just hearing their stories—has been a learning process. It’s taken time to develop the right resources, build meaningful connections, and create a step-by-step framework to support these students effectively.

Beyond my nonprofit work, I’ve spent 21 years running a for-profit youth development organization focused on leadership training, character development, and creating valuable resources for young people. Through both efforts, I’ve remained committed to equipping students with the tools they need to rewrite their stories.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I’m Most Proud Of

Personally and organizationally, what brings me the most pride is seeing young people break cycles, shift narratives, and change their own trajectories. Having the opportunity to walk alongside them and witness that transformation is incredibly rewarding. I’m also grateful to work with an incredible team of individuals who are both gifted and called to this work—it’s a collective effort that makes a lasting impact.

What Sets Us Apart

Our approach is unique because we go into some of the toughest spaces to meet students where they are. We don’t just serve them—we connect with them, walk alongside them, and help them uncover their own strength. A core part of our mission is ensuring that every young person understands the value of giving back to others. We believe in the power of community, and we prioritize strong partnerships to create a village of support for the students we serve.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
A lot of people are surprised to learn how hands-on I am. I don’t just oversee programs—I show up, boots on the ground, fully present in these spaces. It’s important to me that the work is personal, not just organizational.

Another unexpected part of my journey is that I originally moved to Atlanta to be a music producer. But God had other plans. He called me to be a pastor—not just behind a pulpit, but out in the world where His people are. Today, as an ordained pastor, I embrace that calling by being present in the places where young people need guidance, support, and hope.
