Rising Stars: Meet Wynton Foster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wynton Foster.

Wynton, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Prime Pursuit is a brand that represents and encourages the pursuit of one’s passion. That burning desire that each of us hold within. It actually started out as a hope and dream that surfaced while I was in college. I’d have swatches and T-shirt designs plastered all over my wall. I’ve always enjoyed fashion, textiles, and what goes behind putting a “fit” together. Sometimes a complex task when you have trouble finding things that align with your style. So I wanted to create a brand for me, that represents exactly what I wanted to embody from fashion to a lifestyle. So I started to create branding around what I envisioned this to be.

Fast forward, I graduate college with a Business Degree and enter the corporate World of Product Management. I knew that success isn’t an overnight occurrence and Real World experience is essential ESPECIALLY when directly applicable to your personal goals. Product Management gave me the necessary tools needed to run a business, and not just any business, an e-commerce business. A challenging role in the sense that what it entails is a company gives someone a product that they want in the market and that person is responsible for the success of that product. What determines this includes everything from User Research, Design, Development, and of course launching that product or service. So the goal here was to become an expert in the field in which I then could apply to my OWN personal goal, launching a clothing brand.

In this new age, accessibility is at each of our fingertips and I want to be able to provide high-quality fashion to the rising need. Prime Pursuit Clothing launched in June 2022 with the Prime Essential Collection providing staple streetwear items with Winter collection right around the corner! We aspire to not just be a brand that provides quality garments but also a brand that believes in a quality life. The belief that that quality is found when we pursue what we desire, where true fulfillment exists.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I’d say a rocky road would be a better phrase. Launching a business in itself is not an easy task and there are lessons to be learned on the way. Sourcing fabrics and products is a lengthy and expensive process, especially if you are very particular about presentation. Finding cost-saving methods that work will be important. Figuring out your marketing strategy in the WORLD of social media also brings a challenging aspect. Having now the ability to access millions of people and ensuring your brand is represented in the right light. You never want to miss the target or not be mindful of the real world because cancel culture does exist.

Challenges and obstacles are necessary with respect to starting a business. I truly believe if you find a pathway with no obstacles, it most likely doesn’t lead anywhere. Apply the lesson and be better. That type of tenacity is essential and ultimately builds character. I will say my goal was to limit my interactions with obstacles by getting that corporate experience which was definitely helpful, but there are always things unexpected that you’ll have to overcome.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At 31 years old, I have worked my way up to a Sr. Product Manager in the Software sector. I work for a company that sells Warehouse Distribution Software to enterprise-level clients. In this role, I have the responsibility of building automated warehouse functionality that can support any type of fulfillment solution. This can be solutions specific to needing to get 1 million units out the door in a day to the ability to intelligently manage the workflow in a warehouse. I specialize in Goods-To-Person, which is the movement of inventory from storage to the place where it needs to be picked. Prior to this role I worked closely in the e-commerce and textile industries. My true game plan was to land roles that were in a sense, stepping stones, each providing more rounded clarity on how to run my own clothing business.

What I am most proud of is that this is not a easy industry to get into and I found my niche and got in a place where it was mutually beneficial for my personal and financial goals. What sets me apart, is I am the only African American currently on my Software team, which to me speaks volumes. The goal is to educate more about this space and the opportunities it presents so our presence in these industries can start to change. There’s a ton of opportunity out there and it needs to be better publicized.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I moved to Atlanta end of 2018 and it has shown me nothing short of an amazing time. The city itself is beautiful and I personally enjoy the visibility to black excellence. Sometimes we need to physically see things to understand possibilities that exist. The Culture, the nightlife, the opportunities the city presents, what’s not to like about the city?

After about Year 2, my body adjusted to the hot summers but the pollen in the Spring time is something I’ll never get use to, but I manage =)
