Rising Stars: Meet Yusma Rizwan of Karachi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yusma Rizwan

Hi Yusma, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
At 18, my life took a dramatic turn. My father’s decision to ask us to leave the house forced me and my family to confront the harsh realities of starting from scratch. As one of five children from an affluent and influential background, I never imagined that I’d be fighting to rebuild my life at such a tender age.

But adversity can be a potent catalyst for growth. My sister and I formed an unbreakable bond, pooling our resources and determination to take on the world. We worked tirelessly, juggling multiple responsibilities, and sacrificing comforts to create a new life.

The journey was far from easy. There were times when the uncertainty and fear seemed overwhelming. Yet, we persevered, driven by an unyielding resolve to succeed. And succeed we did.

Fast-forward two years, and our lives have transformed in ways we never thought possible. We’ve risen from the ashes, and now reside in a beautiful, furnished apartment – a testament to our hard-won independence.

At 20, I’ve lived a lifetime. I’ve experienced the brutality of hardship, but also the thrill of triumph. My sister and I have emerged as warriors, armed with the wisdom and resilience that only comes from facing one’s fears head-on.

Today, at just 20 years old, I’m living a life that rivals that of a 30-year-old woman – one who is confident, self-assured, and unapologetically independent. My story is one of hope, perseverance, and the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood. It’s a testament to the human spirit’s capacity to overcome adversity and rise, phoenix-like, from the ashes.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey was far from smooth. We faced countless obstacles, setbacks, and moments of uncertainty. Adjusting to our new reality was a rude awakening, going from comfort and privilege to uncertainty and hardship.

Self-doubt crept in, and I wondered if we’d made a mistake. But we persevered, drawing strength from each other, our bond as sisters, and our determination to succeed. We learned to be resilient, adapt, and trust ourselves.

The struggles made us stronger, wiser, and more compassionate. We discovered the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the human spirit’s power to overcome adversity.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a multifaceted individual with a passion for aviation, I’ve had the privilege of working with prominent industry players. My professional journey began in the ground office of an international airline, where I quickly rose through the ranks to a senior position – a testament to my dedication and work ethic.

Currently, I’m an integral part of a leading travel agency’s international department, further solidifying my expertise in the field.

Beyond my professional pursuits, I’m a creative force to be reckoned with. I’m an avid writer, having penned numerous novels, and I also express myself through poetry in multiple languages. My artistic side is further showcased through my sketching talents.

What sets me apart is my unique blend of passions, skills, and experiences. I’m a natural wordsmith, able to articulate my thoughts and emotions with ease on paper, although I’m more introverted in person.

My latest endeavor is perhaps my most personal and ambitious project yet – an autobiographical novel that delves into my hobbies, personality, and the very essence of who I am. This introspective journey has allowed me to tap into my individuality, and I’m excited to share my story with the world.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
As someone who’s navigated the complexities of multiple passions and careers, I’d offer the following advice to those just starting out:

Embracing your uniqueness is key. Don’t be afraid to explore multiple interests and passions – it’s often the intersection of these pursuits that leads to innovation and fulfillment.

Be open to learning from failures and setbacks. Resilience is crucial in overcoming obstacles, and it’s often the lessons learned from mistakes that propel us forward.

Networking and building genuine relationships is vital. Surround yourself with people who uplift and support you, and be willing to offer the same in return.

Lastly, don’t compare your journey to others. Focus on your own growth, and celebrate the small wins along the way.

As for what I wish I knew when starting out, I’d say it’s the importance of self-care and prioritizing mental health. The pressures of navigating multiple pursuits can be overwhelming, and it’s essential to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

I’d also tell my younger self to be more patient and kinder to myself during the learning process. Growth is a journey, not a destination – and it’s okay to take your time figuring things out.
