Shakeera Springs on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Shakeera Springs shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Shakeera, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My mornings are intentionally slow and grounding—especially in the summer. The kids and I ease into the day together, often with quiet time and soft light pouring in. I start by preparing my fresh juice, which is part of my daily ritual for nourishment and healing. While sipping it, I usually check my emails and take a moment to water my flowers and plants on the porch. It’s a peaceful time that sets the tone for a mindful, balanced day ahead.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Shakeera Springs—wife, mother of five, holistic practitioner, and the founder of So Refreshed, a wellness brand rooted in nature, motherhood, and science. I’m also the voice behind HowToMomx5, where I share real-life tips on navigating motherhood, healing, and living with intention—all while raising a big, beautiful family.

So Refreshed started from my own wellness journey—healing from anemia and gut inflammation and has since grown into a collection of handcrafted skincare, herbal teas, and wellness products designed to support women naturally. What makes my brand unique is the heart behind it: everything I create is something I’ve used in my own healing journey, backed by years of research, and infused with love and purpose.

Whether it’s showing other moms how to reset with a morning juice or teaching the power of healing through food, I’m passionate about helping women feel good in their bodies again. Right now, I’m working on expanding my product line and publishing books that guide others through gut healing and holistic wellness—because I truly believe our health starts from within.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that has served its purpose and must now be released is the version of myself that was constantly in research mode, immersed in studying holistic health, public health, and food safety while writing my doctoral study. That chapter required deep focus, discipline, and long hours of learning. Now, I’m ready to step into a new season, one of application, teaching, and expansion—where I take all that knowledge and pour it back into my community through my brand, my content, and the people I serve.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most in life is worrying about what others would think of me. For years, I dimmed my light, second-guessed my ideas, and held back from showing up fully, especially as a woman walking both a professional and holistic path. But I’ve come to realize that my voice, my story, and my journey have power and that playing small serves no one. Releasing that fear has been one of the most freeing and transformative shifts in my life.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is absolutely the real me. I show up with authenticity and transparency in everything I do, whether I’m sharing my wellness journey, homeschooling life, or building my brand. What you see is truly who I am: a mother, a healer, a researcher, and a woman committed to living and teaching from a place of truth. I believe people connect most when you’re real with them, and that’s something I stand on every day.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m definitely walking in my calling. For a long time, I followed the path I was told to take, what felt safe, expected, or traditional. But stepping into holistic wellness, research, and helping others heal has felt like coming home to myself. Everything I’m doing now, from creating natural products to sharing my journey as a mother and wellness advocate, aligns with who I was born to be. It’s purpose-driven, heart-led work, and I know I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.
