Story & Lesson Highlights with Jaszy Shavers of Fulton County

Jaszy Shavers shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Jaszy, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I’m being called to stop shrinking and start taking the space that was always mine. For too long, I worried about being labeled ‘too much’ – too opinionated, too raw, too different. Now I see that’s the exact fuel that sets me apart. I’m here to disrupt what feels disposable in this industry, to carve out a lane that blends legacy and rebellion, soul and grit. What once felt like a risk – standing in my truth, demanding respect, refusing to be packaged down – is now my standard. I’m unapologetic about it because the culture doesn’t move forward when we play small. It moves when we dare to be undeniable.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jaszy Shavers – an artist, producer, engineer, and sound designer aiming to impact the future by blending legacy with innovation. My sound carries the grit of hip-hop, the sensuality of soul, and the edge of experimentation, all while staying true to my roots. I’m not here to chase trends; I’m here to create work that lasts, work that feels undeniable. My brand and label, The New Old School, is a cultural hub — where timeless influence meets fearless new expression. From crafting records and sound packs to scoring films, building iconic visuals and curating timeless storytelling, everything I do is about authenticity, artistry, and pushing the culture forward in a way that can’t be ignored.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My Nana saw me clearly before I even knew what I was stepping into. She gave me the name Jaszy, and she was the first to imagine out loud how far music would take me. When I was little, she would daydream with me about stages I hadn’t even touched yet. She let me turn her and Papa’s basement into my first studio before I had a space of my own, and she even lent me my first instrument – an old school organ that still carries her energy in it. She never made me feel like music was a hobby. She let me set up my keyboard anywhere in the house, and I recorded song after song on her desktop computer using just Sound Recorder, before I even knew software like Audacity existed. She gave me freedom, belief, and room to create. That foundation made me fearless about carving my own lane, because she taught me to see my gift as something undeniable from the very beginning.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self: there are no limits. The artists you once looked up to will become collaborators, mentors, and genuine friends – people who create with you and hold space for you as an equal. The same features and parts of your personality you were teased for will one day be celebrated, spotlighted, and woven into the core of your brand. Every creative tool you thought you didn’t have, you’ll teach yourself – and those skills will become the very engine that propels your career forward. The same people who tried to cut you out will eventually watch from a distance, telling others they ‘knew you.’ The small town you’re from won’t dictate your reach – it will only sharpen your hunger. And every reinvention will bring you closer to the essence of who you’ve always been. You were never too much. You were always destined to be exactly who you are now.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
There is no ‘public version’ of me. Every song I write is ripped from real experiences. My color palette? My favorite colors – all I wear, all I own, down to the smallest accessory. The values I share aren’t brand slogans – they’re the way I move through the world and life. Even my sound is me: my thoughts, my moods, my grit, my soul. What you see isn’t a persona, it’s me – unfiltered, unapologetic, amplified. The only difference is now I refuse to shrink it down. You’re seeing Jaszy in full color, full truth, full volume – exactly as I’ve always been.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope they say I was real – that I refused to shrink to fit a mold. That I shook tables, asked the hard questions, and inspired people to stop waiting for permission to be themselves. I want my legacy to compel, liberate, and innovate – something beyond the music and for future generations to sample, study, and still feel alive in. My story has never been about chasing moments; it’s about freedom… expression… creating work that refuses to die. If my name is spoken decades from now, I want it to remind people that you should be bold, stay true, create without limits, and leave behind art that keeps the culture moving forward.
