Story & Lesson Highlights with Matthew Piwers

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Matthew Piwers. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Matthew , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been putting a lot of work into updating the studio I’m with and getting everything ready for a relaunch. Bringing it back to life has honestly been a real source of joy for me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dex, a Chicago native now based in Atlanta. I am a recording and mixing engineer specializing in delivering high-quality mixes and professional, detail-driven recording experiences.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my best friend and brother, DB, has been instrumental in shaping not only the person I’ve become, but also the standard I hold myself to as a high-caliber recording and mixing engineer.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was a period when I nearly stepped away from my path, particularly after losing a relative who meant the world to me. That experience, however, ultimately fueled my determination. It pushed me to work harder, pursue my goals with greater purpose, and strive to become someone they would be proud of.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I deeply admire both my mother and father for their character and strength. Their guidance played a defining role in shaping the man I am today, and I wouldn’t be where I am without the foundation they built for me.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When my time here is done, I hope to be remembered as someone who inspired others and who approached music with genuine passion and care. Above all, I want my legacy to reflect how deeply I valued giving back to my family, friends, and community.
