Olasubomi Odunbaku shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Olasubomi , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
“Absolutely, I would hire myself. I genuinely value my can-do-it-all attitude—it’s a mindset that allows me to adapt, take initiative, and thrive in any situation. People with this kind of drive know how to navigate challenges and find solutions, which is exactly why I believe I’m an asset to any team.”
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Olasubomi Odunbaku a creative director, portrait photographer, and passionate storyteller. At the heart of my brand is a commitment to creating emotionally resonant visuals that tell real, compelling stories. What sets my work apart is the aesthetic language I’ve developed over the years — a blend of raw beauty, artistic intentionality, and storytelling that speaks without words.
I began my photography journey over eight years ago, and what started as a spark has grown into an unshakable passion. Every shoot has been a stepping stone, and the journey has been nothing short of mind-blowing. I consider myself a diamond in the rough — constantly evolving, pushing boundaries, and triumphing in every season.
Currently, I’m studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), and this experience has radically expanded my creative vision. SCAD has not only sharpened my technical skill but also challenged me to explore deeper narratives in my work. It’s an environment that fuels my artistic growth daily.
Now, I’m taking a bold leap — pivoting into commercial photography with the goal of merging my strong storytelling foundation with brand-focused, visually impactful work. Whether I’m capturing portraits or conceptual campaigns, I approach every project with intention, heart, and a commitment to excellence.
My brand isn’t just about taking pictures — it’s about creating lasting impressions. I’m here to bring visuals to life, to inspire, and to continue triumphing through the art of storytelling.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
“My mom has always been a strong pillar in my life. She saw my potential long before the world ever did, and she’s consistently spoken life into me. Her unwavering belief in my dreams made me believe I could become anything I set my heart on. She’s always been so positive and encouraging about my goals, and watching her speak that over me so naturally—like someone who bet everything on me—made it easier for me to recognize my own inner strength and strive for greatness.”
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
“If I could say one thing to my younger self, it would be this: Don’t be angry. It’s really not that deep. Life happens, and not everything is worth carrying so heavily. Be kind to yourself—you’re doing the best you can.”
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
“If there’s one thing most people would agree on about me, it’s that what you see is exactly what you get. I’m as real as they come—there’s no façade, no pretending. Authenticity is something I live by.”
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
“If there’s one story I want people to remember about me when I’m gone, it’s that I truly lived, I deeply loved, I never stopped learning, and that my presence mattered. I was here, I created, and my life had purpose.”
