Today we’d like to introduce you to Gumbo Therapy Podcast.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We are the Gumbo Therapy Podcast comprised of best friends who have different upbringings, Diamonel, married, raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and Tammy, newly divorced, raised in Toledo, Ohio. We also differ in everything else, including goals, relationships and opinions, but somehow making it work and laughing along the way!
Our friendship story is pretty unique because we met through our partners. Tammy’s ex-husband is friends and grew up with Diamonel’s husband. Tammy met Diamonel’s husband in the delivery room after having her son, who is now 13. At the time, Diamonel was living in Baton Rouge, finishing up her degree and moved to Alabama a year later. Through the course of our 10-year friendship, we have had ups and downs. Because of our strong personalities, we have almost had fights over soap, a charger and our opinions on special education. But through it all, we have come out stronger and now do not sweat the small stuff.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We are both busy with being parents! We work full-time, attend our children’s everyday events, support our significant others, and manage to find time for our brand. Our personal lives only give a small window to pursue the things that are truly needed for our personal goals! The need to have content for our podcast is imperative. The need to research how to improve ourselves to become better is what keeps us going. We know that we want better for not only ourselves but for our family.
In addition, through this journey, we have realized how important it is to stay consistent in putting out new content and engaging with followers. Because of our busy and often unpredictable lives keeping a consistent podcast schedule is difficult, along with engagement. We know to grow our audience and fulfill the dreams we have for our podcast we must stay consistent and relevant, which has been one of our biggest challenges thus far.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Gumbo Therapy is our baby. We created the podcast on a whim when we felt other people could relate to our experiences. In the beginning, the primary goal was just to record our conversations. Through our growth, it has evolved into semi-monthly IGTV Live discussions. Through that avenue, we have had the opportunity to connect and learn about so many people and lifestyles. Some of our most interesting interviews consist of polyamorous couples, a dominatrix, an Essence magazine published journalist, a playboy model, and even a group that bought an entire town. Not to mention, we have developed a family with other podcasters. We have been able to learn from others while making it our own. We’ve been featured on other podcasts in the U.S. as well as in Africa. Our work is never done because of the intrinsic motivation we possess. The eagerness to learn about others only takes a quick slide into their DM! Sliding into DM’s is a major part of our work duties! We often contact any and everybody we feel will align with our goals. The results of sliding in their DM has given us opportunities to gain knowledge not only for ourselves but to inform our fans of things that are going on in the world.
What’s next?
The plan is to be bigger than ever! Progression is the main task. Our future plans are based on how we move now and forthcoming. We want to inspire others around the world. We want them to know that you can have it all when you set your standards and move intentionally. Our motto that keeps us thriving is assuring that our intentions are set. Growth comes from evolving mentally. If we want different, we have to move different. Ultimately, our plan to expand our brand by becoming entrepreneurs and make Gumbo Therapy a household name. Our brand will consist of apparel, a syndicated talk show, teaching podcast courses and much more. This is only the beginning for us.
