Check Out Neffy Raps’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neffy Raps.

Hi Neffy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was drawn to being a creative from a very young age. I was always curious about things from as far back as I can remember, Not only did I try my hand in basketball as a kid, but that’s when I started music too. The sports thing didn’t last long because I didn’t grow past 5ft after age 13. That was short-lived! I turned my attention back to music. I learned how to play piano. I watched my dad make beats, then I would go and make my own beats on fruity loops. I always wrote poetry but I had a real interest in rap. The passion, the culture, the style, everything. I would sneak and listen to my parents CD’s. They had Lil Lim, Eve, the Fugees, Nas, Biggie, Pac, Bone Thugs, all kinds of stuff. They tried to keep it from me but I listened anyway. And then I fell in love with hip hop. Flash forward to 2014, I uploaded my first song to Soundcloud called Dreamer, and that’s where it all really started. This journey as Neffy started right there. It became a lifestyle at that moment. So that’s where the journey begins. And it most definitely has taken me places, both up and down! Flash forward to 2022, now a serial content creator, recording artist, executive producer, and entrepreneur, I wouldn’t trade my journey for the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Some people are born with certain advantages and some people have to really work from the bottom up. I’m that person that managed to work from the bottom up. Where I’m from, we call it getting it ‘out the mud.’ I was born to a 15-year-old mother. So we kind of grew up together. My parents did do their best to provide me with a decent life even still. But nothing prepares you for the cards that you will be dealt and how many of those same cards will be stacked up against you. You deal with the challenges as they come. It doesn’t get any easier, but you learn how to deal with it better. Because you realize you have no choice but to learn how to deal better. If not certain things will get the best of you.

I’ve dealt with what I now know as the typical cycle of what that rise to success really is. People think it’s smooth sailing all the way up. But that’s far from the truth. The only difference in the successful and the not so successful is one learned from their mistakes and never gave up. Being a woman, specifically a bisexual woman of color, I deal with not being taken seriously, being overly objectified, and being pigeon-holed into a box or this cookie-cutter idea of what a woman entertainer and entrepreneur looks like. Opportunities have been withdrawn if I didn’t entertain dates. There are egos involved, there’s gatekeeping, there’s all kinds of things that you have to navigate through. My best advice is, know the game you are in and play it better than the best of them.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My company Major Zone Music has expanded to the Dallas area and is growing rapidly. We specialize in providing a one-stop-shop digital marketplace for independent and up-and coming-artists and influencers. I started the company because I saw a lane, after creating one for myself, to do real work on the ground and use my years of industry connections to help artist build their brands. Artists interested in more information can visit majorzonemusic.com

Under my company, I also curate large-scale events bringing together artists, influencers, media, & industry executives under one roof. Our latest concert series “Drip Fest” has been creating a major buzz among artists and tastemakers. The next show, Drip Fest 4 is happening June 24th at Club Dada in Dallas, Texas.

My podcast ‘The Vibe Session with NeffyRaps’ which I also executive produce, is doing big things. We host celebrity guests & artists on the rise as we discuss rap culture, trending topics and more. We have featured over 500 guests and are currently on Season 3 of the show.

I also just dropped a new single ‘RAH RAH’ that is streaming on all digital platforms. It’s about drowning out the noise and focusing back on what you came to do. During the pandemic, I took and step back and had to figure some things out. Things changed for a second. I had just expanded to Dallas and now this!? Alot of people were in my ear about things out of my control. I learned you have to be careful who you listen to because everybody doesn’t want to see you win. Sometimes you have to remind people of who you are! So that’s how the song came about. I’m about to shoot the music video for it so look out for that!

I would say I am most known for being a trendsetter, being bold to do what others were scared to do, and for following my dreams. No matter what I have ever gone through, I never let it defeat me. I was eventually able to get up, dust off, put one foot in front of the other, and try again. And that’s what I am most proud of.
