Community Highlights: Meet Deanna Mixon of MUVA Couture Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Mixon.

Hi Deanna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story all started when I was diagnosed with Crohns Disease at the age of 15. At the age of 15, I always wanted to help other kids dealing with Crohns Disease, even if I was not able to help myself. Fast forward to one day. I wanted to create something special for kids and young adults who suffered with Crohns Disease. So I would always sketch my own fashion designs curated for us. But since I was young, I really did not have the funds. Since being on so many medications, I developed a lot more issues, including depression and anxiety. However, in 2018, my father passed away, my engagement was called off six months before the wedding, and six months after my dad passed. With all that, I became suicidal. After three months of going to intensive counseling, I decided to start a podcast called Whew Chile Podcast. Helping and guiding women through grief and mental health as I was learning myself. Six months later, I started a clothing boutique catering to women’s self-care called MUVA Couture Boutique. My story has helped me in so many ways, and I pray to continue to help other women as well.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Whew Chile, lol not it has not been a smooth road at all. But I truly grateful for the lessons I have learned along the way. I knew owning a business came with challenges, as I saw my dad do that with his own business. But I was up for the challenge and knew I was built for this. Some struggles I have encountered is dealing with mental health while trying to own a business. That’s the purpose of the businesses, but dealing with it as well can be tough. But I have a great support team, especially my husband, my mom, my sister, and friends who support me and encourage me to keep going.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
MUVA Couture is for the women who want to walk in the room and own it. Not only with their clothing but with confidence as well. We tend to curate pieces that can make a statement or can just be your everyday wear. We are set apart from other brands because we put self-care first! That shows in our packaging with the additional items that we include for free. We can guarantee when you open your package, you will feel inspired! And if you were having a bad day before, we can guarantee you will feel a boost of inspiration afterwards. I am so proud of my brand because it is helping so many women! That is the ultimate goal before anything else.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
GOD deserves all the credit. He has picked me up from my literal LOWEST and showed me what HE can do. No with anyone else, but just him! I never thought that I would make it out of 2018 but he did that just for me. And continues! Along with God, my husband, my mom, sister, friends, and my best friend India with Naavas Light Candles co. have been so supportive. I mean, when I am down, they reassure me that I am doing great and that no matter what, they have my back. That’s love and the best support anyone can ask for.
