Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronnel Ricardo Parham.
Hi Ronnel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story begins in Philadelphia, PA. I didn’t grow up acting and performing at all. In fact, I didn’t even take my first acting class until I was almost 21 years old. It was a 6-week commercial class. By the 3rd class, I knew this is what I wanted to do with my life. Acting has taken me all over the country. I studied theatre in college, West Chester University, about 40 minutes outside of Philadelphia. After graduation, I moved to New York City and acted in numerous Off-Broadway Plays. I’ve lived in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and now Atlanta. In this time, I created my own Production Company, named 5R Productions, which has won over 45 awards so far. I’m an award-winning actor and director, a self-taught screenwriter, a producer and a content creator. I’m very excited for my future in the business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing about my journey has been smooth! It’s been relentless efforts to pursue my dreams since I discovered I wanted to be an actor when I was about 20 years old. The main struggle has been supporting myself while trying to chase my dream. Figuring out a way to maintain financially while never losing sight of the goals. It’s been very difficult doing this in two of the most expensive cities in America–New York City and Los Angeles. But with hard work, dedication, and a plan, I’ve made it happen. It can also be very challenging pursuing a goal such as being a successful actor when you aren’t around your family and friends for support or extra motivation. But through perseverance, I’ve made it this far!
As you know, we’re big fans of 5R Productions. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I founded 5R Productions in 2017 but didn’t technically designate it as an LLC until 2020. We specialize in film and television concepts and projects geared towards creating more diversity in the entertainment industry. The company has won over 45 awards since 2017. We also have two web series that are distributed by Amazon Prime and one of those series is also on a creative content Roku Channel. What sets us apart from other production companies is that we don’t shy away from topics that are affecting people. Lots of production companies don’t want to dive into controversial topics. It can be risky regarding viewership. We, on the other hand create projects geared towards addressing the controversial issues so the people going through those things can see that their voices and experiences matter.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Well, I created the name “5R Productions” in the representation of myself and my four other siblings. All our names begin with the letter “R,” all from a design by our mother. I thought it was only right to honor such a unique thing by naming my production company after the beginning letter of all our names.
