Exploring Life & Business with Jovanna Dozier of DarkBeautyJava

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jovanna Dozier.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Inspired to brand and share my love for coffee I created DarkBeautyJava. I have always wanted to own my own coffee brand after I took my first sip back in 2014. I moved to Georgia in 2018 when hurricane Michael took Panama City, FL by storm (I am originally from Montgomery, Al). DarkBeautyJava launched on 11/1/2020 as an online store and soon, DarkBeautyJava will have its first brick and mortar.

Coffee to me, is a comfort drink, kind of like the drink for the soul. The goal for my brand is from the time you open the package to the brewing process; the aroma will immediately make your mood brighter. When you take that first sip, everything around you ceases and at that moment, you are living in the present. You will be energized throughout the day and you will get this warm feeling of positive, welcoming, loving energy. Even if you are not a morning person, have a cup of DarkBeautyJava and you will be ready to take on the day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you have learned along the way/ Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth at all but it is so worth it! Some struggles I faced was shipping cost and getting my brand noticed.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I own an organic coffee brand, DarkBeautyJava. DarkBeautyJava is different from other coffee brands because it shines a light of love in all dark areas in our lives. It’s here to remind you that even in the dark times of life, love is still present, and you can and will over overcome! I brand my coffee with rose petals to give you that feeling of love and being loved.

I am most proud of my High Voltage Joseph flavor I named after my late father, Joseph Smith, Jr, an outstanding strong man! My brand offers gift cards, DBJ points that are earned with each order and can be used as a form of payment, my company gives back by making monthly donations to different causes, we will participate in beach cleanups and environmental services. We also offer a delivery service through our business partner, Believe Organic beverage Co, LLC.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would highly advise anyone that wants to start a business, no matter how big or small, to always find a mentor and network. What has worked well for me is visiting different outside local events, “networking” as well as some events in Birmingham, Al, webinars, and speaking with other amazing business owners.
