Today we’d like to introduce you to Jedeye Moree.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a child, I was always interested in instruments, sounds, and the way sounds made people feel. I realized that you could make an instrument out of anything around you as long as you had some kind of rhythm or idea. Even going to church when I was younger, I’d try to mimic the drum players and that’s when I knew I had a passion for music. Approaching high school, I got more intrigued with poetry, lyricism, expression, and hip hop music. It was something about the way artists were expressing using metaphors and similes while storytelling that inspired me to challenge myself to do better at it while realizing I also had a story to tell from a different perspective. All throughout high school, I wrote songs, poems, and short stories but I always thought I’d keep them to myself from being too shy to actually speak them. Transitioning from high school to college, I found myself having more and more time to write so at this point, I had time to get better at channeling my thoughts on paper. I had been writing all summer before going to college not knowing that there were various amounts of artists attending the college I was as well. Early college years are when I started actually recording the music I had been writing over time and it’s only drove me to do it more since the first time I actually heard myself on a microphone. In 2019, I released my debut album, “Something to Remember”. In 2020, I released a six track EP titled “Hurting to Heal”, and December of 2021 I released my single “UnSpoken Thoughts 3”. I didn’t understand the effect that putting my perspective of life in music would have on the world until the world started responding to what I presented to it. The feeling that I get when my messages connect and inspire the next person is the feeling that never gets old and will help me create as we progress into 2022.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Well, life isn’t a smooth road. Pursuing music is the same as pursuing anything else you want to do in life, but it’s all about how you react to the bumps as you’re on the journey. Personally, one of the things that I used to struggle with were thinking about what other people would think of me as they’re consuming the art. One day it hit me as a creator that it’s my job to be as open and honest as possible with my fans, supporters, and even myself. I came to realize if I don’t express myself fully in the art, then I’m cheating y’all as the creator. The way I overcame that problem was to perceive it as whoever doesn’t agree with the art, it’s just not for them. The people it connects with the most just vibrate on the same frequencies as I do; everything is not for everybody.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
As I further studied the music business, I gained knowledge about other business inquiries that artists dive into. This is when I came across the idea of creating merch. The more I thought about creating merch, the more people were interested in knowing if I had any available or not. Soon after came moreemerch.com. There are multiple sweatshirts, hoodies, t-shirts, and accessories on the site representing who Jedeye Moree is as a person as well as an artist.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important thing that the journey has taught me is to keep going. The journey isn’t over until it’s over. People tend to let discouraging events or chapters in their lives make them forget that they have a destination to reach regardless. From life experiences, I had to learn that we have to go through hurt to appreciate the feeling of being healed when the hurting is over. If we never go through troubles or problems, we may end up taking the good times for granted and never realize how blessed we are just to wake up another day and get another opportunity at life.
