Hidden Gems: Meet Kimmi Scott of Scott Imperium Property Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimmi Scott.

Hi Kimmi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story is much like many others, I am the younger of two daughters raised by a single parent from Baltimore MD, My mother was a registered nurse and I soon realized I wanted to follow in her footsteps. I actually did so in many ways. She also was a great cook. I remember very early, maybe 5 or 6 her teaching me how to scramble eggs. Cooking is now my quiet place. I love to cook and own a catering business with one of my very best friends called K&K Cuisine. I also published my first digital e-book (Kimmi’s Kitchen can be found on my website – The Kim Zone)

I graduated from University of Alabama in Huntsville with both my Undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing. As a single parent, I elected to leave Maryland to raise my son in Huntsville. I knew that I have strong support circle and I honestly wanted to stack the odds in his favor as an African American male. You know how some people in hindsight say “well, that wasn’t so hard”? Well, that not my story. It was hard. A single mom, working full-time, in grad school full-time with a 2yr old. I absolutely had moments of breakdown where my support team practically had to carry me.

After completing grad school, I quickly rose to the position of Executive Director for the Home Care agency I worked for in Madison County, AL. It was a challenge; but one I quickly surmounted. I’m always up for a good challenge to prove I can do whatever I set my mind to do. I honestly wasn’t interested in dating at the time but low and behold Jesus sent me Maurice.

We were introduced by his brother and sister-in-law (at the time) and I was smitten. He soon became a good friend and mentor. I loved to talk about Real Estate as I wanted to get my Real Estate License for many years. Maurice was very active in investment properties and encouraged me to get my Real estate License. So I did. In 2014 I passed my Real Estate exam and began my career in Real Estate. My first transaction was actually acting as the buying agent for Marsau on one of his investment properties.

Maurice and I met Melody and Martel Holt in 2014 and were privileged to be asked to interview with them for the now number 1 reality show Love & Marriage Huntsville. You already know, we killed our interview. Be clear, not everyone that interviewed made the cut. We began filming in 2017 and we got married on the show in 2018. We are now approaching season 4 of one of the greatest reality shows ever (this is where I also must shout out to Carlos King – EP)

Maurice continually pushed me to pursue entrepreneurship and make a clean break from nursing to Real Estate. I was extremely pensive but knew I still had the support of my village. Part of my bargaining agreement was to wait until Jaylin finished College as I had a substantial amount of expenses at the time. And didn’t want those expenses to fall on Maurice. Jaylin graduated from Troy University July of 2020. Likewise Maurice graduated from Law School in 2020 as well. His son Maurice Jr came to live with us and just like that we’re back to “Full-House”.

Not only do I now do Real Estate Full-time and nursing part-time, but I also took and passed my Broker’s license and started my own Brokerage – Scott Imperium Property Solutions. I must say, we are slowly becoming the foundation we needed to be for our family and leaving our legacy. Maurice opened up his own law practice and we have secure several other investment properties and filming opportunities. I was able to be featured on and episode of HGTV House Hunters (S209E13), as well as OWN’s “Girlfriends Check-in”.

I’m at place in my life that I would have never seen in a million years and also wouldn’t change either. Every obstacle, every road bump got me to this place. And even though every day isn’t perfect, it’s what’s intended for me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As a single parent, you encounter daily struggles. As strong a women as I think I am, I feel like my biggest obstacle was trying to do it all on my own. Even though I had a village, I often didn’t utilize them. I honestly felt like me, having a baby was my responsibility. So I didn’t often go out, or party or hang out. I went to work and I came home to my child. So when I added graduate school to that list, that’s when things got crazy. I honestly felt overwhelmed. And it’s not often that I admit that. But I was… I didn’t have time for things that I felt were important. Like laundry, dishes, cleaning my house. Sundays with my baby. And not staying on top of those things took a toll on me. I remember calling my mom one day in a subway parking lot and crying… crying that I just felt like it was too much. Too much to keep my house. Too much to raise a King… Too much to finish school in a system that told me I would not make it. Too much to do it by myself. It was then she reminded me that I wasn’t by myself…

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I recently completed my licensure for my Broker’s License in Real Estate. I opened our own company, called Scott Imperium Property Solutions. Where all your real estate needs can be met. Of course, I sell buy/sell Residential Real Estate but I also added property Management to the list. My husband and I are also looking to add Title closings to the company and maybe even a lender… It’s a pretty big endeavor but I definitely looking forward to the future.

What’s next?
I’m hopeful for the future. Much of the endeavors that Maurice and I have embarked upon are new for us. So I am looking forward to becoming a beast at all aspects of our Legal, Real Estate and family endeavors. A big change on the horizon is our Non-profit. Our non-profit is called Mpact IT. And we have some great initiatives that we are working on to further advance some of our community goals and endeavors. Make sure to keep an out for upcoming announcements.
