Hidden Gems: Meet Zoe Shaw of Within Reach Counseling & Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoe Shaw.

Hi Zoe, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey to becoming a counselor was a rollercoaster ride. Many ups, downs, and turns to figure out that counseling was my calling. I was fortunate enough to have amazing mentors along the way to make the process smoother from my time in undergrad as a pre-med psych major to where I now own my own therapy practice. A lot of times, people want to become counselors because they want to help other people. However, during our training, we are forced to come face-to-face with ourselves more than anything—which can be tough. Overall, I suppose I just wanted to become the person that I needed when I was growing up. Someone to support during the tough or uncertain times – someone to notice the things that most people overlook. During and after graduate school, I was able to have a wide range of experiences working in private practice, non-profit, school-based and community settings. After several years, I knew that I wanted to build my vision of what helping others to heal looked like. So Within Reach, Counseling & Consulting was birthed.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have definitely been some challenges along the way, especially with launching a business in the middle of a pandemic. I would say that the most struggles occurred internally. Struggling with self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and the overall stress of juggling other life responsibilities. But I have had an amazing support system through it all that has made the load a little lighter to carry.
