Inspiring Conversations with Marissa Johnson of Queen Tresses Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Johnson.

Hi Marissa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Marissa Johnson. Ceo of Queen Tresses Boutique and The Queen of Glam. My mission is to inspire Women that they are worthy of everything their heart desires and to help them feel beautiful on the inside and out. I always get compliments on how I inspire women with my motivating speeches and my Glam. I’ve always been into Glam. Somewhere down the line, Life happened and I lost myself and went through a depression. There were no motivating speeches or Glam. Thankfully, I overcame depression and decided I wanted to share my story with other women. One day I broke my silence and told the world my story. That exact day I received several emails and phone calls from women informing me that I inspire them and seeking advice on how to move forward from depression & toxic relationships. That’s when I found my passion. Inspiring women that they are worthy of everything their heart desires. That the world is in their hands. Positivity & Supporting other women became something that just made my heart smile on a daily basis. From that, I opened Queen Tresses Boutique. Where we Wake, Pray & Adjust our crowns by affirming greatness in your QUEENDOM while slaying in Queen Tresses beautiful extensions, clothes, and accessories.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started my business, I had absolutely no experience, just a voice, vision, and ambition. The biggest advantage in life is coming up from zero. If you’re lucky enough to know what zero taste like, you weren’t given anything and you’re not entitled.. then you’re set. There is no way to go but UP!

One of my first obstacles was opening up and letting so many people in my personal life. It’s 2021, everyone is Private. No one wants to deal with the opinions and judgment of others. However, that was the beauty of my success. Me being uncomfortable sharing my story and pain helped my Queens become comfortable with trusting me. Ironically, a huge struggle I battle with is helping some women truly believe that they are worthy of everything this heart desires. We live in a society where women are battling so much to be accepted and will do practically anything to receive attention, love and just battling society standards. Sometimes it’s difficult to get such a powerful message across to my audience. That’s when I quickly learned running a business is not always GLITZ & Glam! There are good days and bad days. Every day as an Entrepreneur I’m learning and experiencing new business challenges. It gets challenging at times but I’m so passionate about the business I use my struggles to fuel my hunger for success.

We’ve been impressed with Queen Tresses Boutique, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Queen Tresses Daily affirmations, Public Speaking, Education, and Community engagement is what sets us apart from other boutiques. I’m not just selling products for a profit. That’s what I’m most proud of for my impact within my community. Knowing I’m making a difference and helping another woman Adjust her crown. Queen Tresses offers public Speaking, private self-care coaching, luxurious extensions, trendy fashion pieces.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always a super girly girl. I loved playing dress-up in my late great grandmothers closet as a young girl. She had the most beautiful pieces from the 1930s & 1940s fashion. She would allow me to dress up and play tea with me & explain the fabrics and different styles of clothing to me. In high school, my mom owned a boutique and I loved working for her. My favorite part of working for my mom was styling the mannequins and sorting the inventory because I got the first dibs on the super cute pieces before her loyal customers. My mom also taught me business management while I worked in the boutique. Years later who knew I would be following her footsteps and opening my very own boutique with the very skills and lessons she taught me at a young age. I’m truly appreciative and thankful for her guidance and support. Growing up, if my parents didn’t get my hair done every two weeks. I would be such a brat. I’ve always been obsessed with hair and everything glam. I’ve probably had every hairstyle & outfit in my generation, lol. I annoyed my sibling on a daily informing them on all things beauty or just constantly being in the bathroom changing my hair and makeup. My friends always came and still do when they need motivation, inspiration, or just a listening ear. I was always everyone’s favorite personal cheerleader, super bubbly, and very supportive.
